There are not too many things that can compare with the feeling of sliding down on pristine snow on a gorgeous sunny day. There is no way to describe or duplicate that feeling anywhere. We truly love our skiing or snowboarding riding. Of course we always want ourselves and our buddies to return safely after a day out in the mountains. This is the reason we feel compelled to give you the following safety information.
Learn how to read your routes and look for tell-tale signs of past events. You always hear about the huge avalanches on the news. The news stories do a good job of showing how devastating and unforgiving this natural disaster can be. But you need to know that small avalanches are just as deadly as the large ones you hear about on the news. It's really about experience when it comes to reading your routes. It's also not the easiest skill to acquire either, but it's not something you should ignore at all. You need to study the variations in the terrain, which can sometimes be difficult to detect. Doing so can show you potential hazards as well as signs of past damage to trees. Bindings, are a critical safety mechanism that should not be overlooked. Did you ever think to have them checked by your local pro shop? It's important to remember that your weight, height and skill level be considered in adjusting your bindings. Obviously, bindings are important when you're skiing and moving, but did you know they need to properly release during a fall? Proper maintenance of your bindings is necessary and should include inspection, adjustment and cleaning regularly before the season and during the season too.
It is also a good idea to devise a quick release system for your snowboard. It will require some slight modifications to be made to your plate binding, though. Many snowboarders highly recommend making the modifications for various reasons. There are several situations where you would want to jettison your board. You can easily find plans for making the modifications yourself, and it's really not difficult to do. If you'd rather not do it yourself, you can probably find a board shop that will do it for you. Skiing and snowboard riding are dual edge swords that we seem to love. Every year we hanker and long for the moment we can hit the slopes. So be sure all your gear is in top condition and ready to go. Take a buddy with you never go alone.
