If you're planning a visit to New York City and it's your first time visiting, you probably feel overwhelmed when it comes to knowing what to see and do. With over 651 attractions, it's not surprising! NYC is one of the best places to travel to and visit. There are many iconic places to visit such as Central Park, the Statue of Liberty and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, just to name a few. We'll take you through a list of things to do in NYC that are free and some that aren't.

If you want to stick to a set budget during your 2011 New York City travel, here are a few things for you to do for free. Central Park should be on your list of things to do in NYC because it won't cost you a penny. This amazing park is beautiful! Measuring 843 acres, Central Park is full of lakes, trails, paths and open spaces. It's a great place to have a picnic, go sailing or simply relax. If you're planning to visit NYC during the summer, you'll be glad to know that Central Park hosts a multitude of free events. Perhaps the best thing about Central Park is that it's in the heart of NYC, so you can hit it up between all the fun down town shopping, spas and salons you might visit!

In addition to visiting the park, there are other free things to do in NYC. For instance, you can take a walk through the Times Square Subway Station. There is usually some performances and music in the subway that you won't want to miss. Perhaps window shopping is more up your alley. In that case, you'll want to visit Saks Fifth Avenue and the famous toy store FAO Schwarts.

If you aren't opposed to paying for some of the things to do in NYC during your 2011 trip then here are a few suggestions. To get a spectacular view of the city we know just the place to go, and it isn't the Empire State Building! The Rockefeller Center observation deck has a breath-taking view of the city and many famous attractions. The view at the top of the Rockefeller Center is much better compared to the view at the Empire State Building's observation deck--plus it's less crowded.

One more thing you have to include in your New York City travel is a trip to a few of NYC's famous museums. A great place to start is with the Frick Collection on Fifth Avenue, which is full of the art of Henry Clay Frick. Not only do you get to take in the art of different people, you also geet to see Frick's extravagant home. Other museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art should be on your things to do in NYC list.

After you've done all the things to do in NYC you want to, you're ready to dig in, literally, to the culinary side of NYC. There are several gourmet food tours in the city including Scott's pizza tour. You'll experience some of NYC's finest pizza while being guided by a certified pizza expert.

Now that you've read about things to do in NYC, you're ready to visit the big apple and have an experience of a lifetime! Happy traveling!
