In the good old days, a bin was a bin and you could put anything in there you wished to get rid of. Nowadays, you have to think twice about what you actually want to throw away! Yes, ok, its helping us all environmentally, but I just find it funny that now, when I just want to put something in the bin, I have to work out which bin it goes in. Some items still catch me out, like a juice carton? Is that normal rubbish or recyclable?
About two weeks ago a little food waste bin was at the end of my garden. A little bin saying Food Waste on the front. All food waste, raw or cooked must now go in this bin and kept separate. This is an extra pain as the bin is so small, it will probably take a box of Corn Flakes to fill!
Luckily for us now, there are a few bins on the market which do help us to keep different items separate as well as looking nice in the kitchen. The last bin mechanism is a bit clever. There is now a "Sensor Bin" on the market which will detect a hand coming towards the bin and will pop the lid for you! As well as being a stoke of genius, they are convenient and hygienic.
