Even then when you do finally prepare to have your site designed and launched, if you aren't familiar with at least the fundamentals of search engine optimization, you still may be stuck with that arm out of commission in the fight.
Go ahead and stock your site with all the very latest wiz-bang features such as streaming videos, user interactive features. If you don't have your SEO strategy in order, no one will ever get to see them other than you and perhaps your employees, friends, and family members who click to your site out of curiosity.
Are you aware that some 50% of online browsers never make it past page one when they type in a chosen keyword? Then of that 50% or so that do make it past page one, and on to page two, only some 25% of them ever make it to page three. So what does this mean for the folks who are losing the SEO battle and are stuck on page 10 and beyond?
It means that for every 1000 or so people who type in a keyword that's relevant to their business genre, maybe, just maybe one of them might make it to their page. So do the math and then ask yourself if you can afford to put SEO on the back burner?
Of course the answer to that is a resounding no! Sound SEO strategy begins on day one of the web design process. That is that your site needs to be designed with SEO in mind and that means more than just sticking some keywords into your text. For instance you have to know which keywords to focus on.
Now if you're like most people you are going to look at the monthly global search numbers of the most popular keywords and say I want those ones in my sites text! In reality though, yes they have high search numbers, but at the same time you have to keep in mind that they're also the most fought over.
Don't forget that until you make it to at least page four, all that you will be getting is scraps. So what's the alternative? The alternative is to consider going with less popular keywords that don't have the huge numbers. These will be the words that you have a far greater chance of ending up on page one with, and that's where you are going to be first in line.
