Has anyone you know ever had to use an Experian dispute? Perhaps even yourself? Step one is to draft a letter disputing your Experian report and waste no time in getting it mailed to Experian.
But before you do that, it would probably be wise for you to obtain a photocopy of your original Experian credit report.
By law, you can get one of these reports each year at no cost from each of the three credit bureaus. Navigate over to Annual credit report's site to grab your copy prior to writing your dispute letter.
After you have the report, break it down by items that do and do not belong in your report so you know just what to dispute. You are going to need to mention these listings in the letter that you create, so put this all in order before you send anything to them.
Experian will let you know, upon receipt of your dispute, any additional information is needed or if your claim in invalid. The outcome stems from the way in which your letter is perceived.
If the letter is deemed invalid, Experian will ask you to send more information about your dispute.
Just do what they say and provide them with the information they need so you can get your dispute back on track and reach your ultimate goal of straightening out your credit report.
Upon acceptance of your letter and if no further information is required to proceed, your Experian dispute will be investigated. The originator of the negative blemish will be contacted and told that they have to provide verification that the error is truly yours or someone else's.
They are also responsible for the provision of dates that these purchases were supposedly made and the exact balance of the amount in question that is owed.
Folks who dispute are often pleasantly surprised to find that the dispute is decided in their favor. Which is great because your credit report will be restored and your score will end up back in good standing once again.
I decided to have an experienced law firm handle an Experian dispute for me once, seeing as I was inexperienced in these matters at the time. I contacted Lexington law and hired them to deal with my dispute, but only because I didn't have any personal experience in this area and I didn't want to end up making matters worse.
It didn't take Lexington Law very long to clear this matter up for me in my favor. I am very happy with the experience on a whole and highly recommend Lexington law to anyone who needs this type of Experian dispute help.
