In 2010, Audi launched the R8 GT as the brand new model of the Audi R8 car range. Now, twelve months later, another version has been launched the convertible edition. Audi has also said that they plan to only produce three hundred and thirty three cars. Every Audi R8 GT will have its personal tag number printed onto its gear knob, as a sign of its uniqueness and exclusivity.
The Audi R8 GT Spyder capabilities are something to behold and gasp at. The engineers at Audi HQ in Ingolstadt, have managed to produce a car which outstrips the capabilities of it's predecessor. The convertible's power plant produces an incredible 560 bhp, which combined with the lowering of the car's weight by 85 kilo's, allows the Audi R8 to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 196.97 mph.
Audi's engineers strived to cut the car's weight from every possible component, which included for instance the wheels, brakes and seats, which were constructed from a special type of glass-fibre polymer, instead of regular leather. This gives the Audi R8 a lower centre of gravity and more down-force, which makes the Audi R8 stick like glue to the asphalt and gives the car amazing grip.
The 5.2 litre V10, produces 540 nm torque and with the low weight is a beast on the road. Putting your foot down in the Audi R8 GT is a bone shattering experience. The G forces, which are exerted on the neck and chest and the feeling of speed, are of another dimension, when compared to say sitting in the passenger seat of a Porsche 911 or a Ferrari 458 Italia.

The Audi R8 GT Spyder comes as standard with a six speed R tronic transmission system. In manual, the gears can be changed with paddles behind the steering wheel or by moving the joystick. The traction control system is as close to a F1 traction system available on any road car. Suffice to say, engaging this amazing piece of technology, gives the Audi R8 minimal wheel spin and immediate acceleration.
The all wheel drive system, is biased towards the rear wheels, but with a press of a button the driver can send more torque to the front wheels if needed. Also Audi added on a limited slip differential system at the rear, which gives the car extra grip in the corners and traction.
The Audi R8's suspension is quite simply revolutionary. The wishbones have been made from light-weight aluminium which automatically locate the wheels. The power steering gives the Audi R8 precise movement and hold over the road and the brakes are fifty percent carbon fibre-ceramic, which stops the car from a high speed, extremely easily.
The roof has been specially made from a feather light, smooth fabric and which causes no problems whatsoever when driving at high speeds, whether it's up or down. The roof can be bought down in nineteen seconds and speeded up if necessary.
The sound system is Bang and Olufsen and the car has Bluetooth integrated within the Audi R8's console.
