Province of West Flanders in Belgium is the home to city known as Bruges. Bruges is the city which has a lot of history and architecture inside its boundaries. The city is full of natural beauty with lots of park and natural greenery. Provided the greenery and natural beauty of this city is maintained and developed very efficiently. Because of its beautiful sites the city is also a part of the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bruges totally covers an area of 13,840 hectares. Bruges also is the capital city of the province of West Flanders and is located in the North West side of Belgium.

Bruges has a total population of about 117,073 approximately, according to January 2008 statistics. The city because of its historic importance and natural beauty, Bruges is sometimes referred to “Venice of North”.

Bruges mostly generates its revenue from Tourism sector as the city receives thousands of visitors per year. The City is a destination for tourists because of its natural beauty and historic places. There are thousands of sights inside city boundaries. Among these historic architectures “The Church of Our Lady” is one which is heavily visited by tourists from all around the world. The structure of the church of Our Lady is still regarded as the world’s tallest building made totally of bricks. Inside Bruges the most important and most visited landmark is considered as belfry which was established in the 13th century. The structure’s most important area is the one which comprises of 48 bells in total. Along with these historical structures there are also many parks and museums which represent true colors about the history of Bruges.

Bruges is also very rich in its culture and arts. The city has a very attractive night life. There are a number of theatres inside the city and also many halls which conduct and organize many live shows, orchestras, and stage events. Studio Hall and “The English Theatre of Bruges” are some famous names in the field of arts and culture. Cinema culture is very famous among people of Bruges. The city has three major cinema halls which are almost fully crowded with people even during week days. Out of these cinemas Cinema Liberty is one which is most visited.
Among museums archeological museum, Belfry and Museum of folklore are the most important and biggest of all. Among museums which are non municipal “Diamond Museum” and “English Convert” are the most visited ones.

The transportation means in Bruges are by road, airports and cycling. Although except some of the areas of the city, most of the Bruges is car free zone. The city of Bruges has an airport also named as Ostend Bruges International Airport which is the nearest to city itself. Bruges main railway station is the way to travel easily to any city of Belgium as the station provides the facility of hourly trains to any part of the country. Bruges Railway system is considered as one of the oldest railway systems in the world.
