The city is believed to be the biggest urban area of Belgium. It includes 19 municipalities. The city of Belgium is also part of these municipalities and is also the capital of the country. Brussels is home to about 1 million people now, whereas the population of the metropolitan area is about 1.8 million approximately. After World War II, Brussels became the centre of different big organizations such as NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). Many organizations have also placed their headquarters in Brussels which makes the city a political and international organizations city. In the beginning Dutch was the language common among people of Brussels but later the trend changed towards French.

Brussels has a very oceanic climate. The city receives approximately 200 days of rainfall. The summer season basically remains from April – August. The temperature varies between 20 to 25 degrees in summer. Also the city experiences some humidity during summers. The winters start from September and the temperature in mid of September starts to move towards a lower side and by the end of month it falls almost to 10 degrees. Winters are cold in the city, and night is even colder than the day time. The temperature ranges between 0 to 5 degrees. The winter season is from September to June as in the middle of July humidity starts to increase and temperatures as well. Rainfall can be expected at any time in Brussels, but it mostly occurs in winter season.

According to May 2008 statistics Brussels had a population of about 1,070,841 residents. The city totally covers the area of about 161.382 square kilometers. Brussels in the beginning received lots of people who migrated from France and Morocco and settled in Brussels which eventually increased the city’s population. Also there are Arabs, Muslims, and a large number of people from Spain. Brussels can be called as the city of mixed cultures as it is home to people from different backgrounds and communities.

Architecture is a strong field in Brussels as there are a lot of places in Brussels which have become one of the top destinations for tourists. The Grand Palace is one of them which receive a huge amount of tourists from all around the world throughout the year. Also it was included in the list of “UNESCO World Heritage Site” in 1988. Along with the “Grand Palace”, another structure for which Brussels is famous for is the “Atomium” which is made in the Heysel Park. The structure displays the figure and look of an atom which is about 338ft tall.
Economically Brussels is very strong as it supports a lot and also contributes heavily in the economy of Belgium. Brussels mostly generates its revenue from the services sector. Crafts Industry is the most developed industry in Brussels.

Brussels is not behind any big city of the world in the field of education as the city has a number of universities which are renowned all over the world for providing quality education for a number of years.
