Because there are a lot of genre in music that singers can choose from, for example opera, jazz, classical, blues and country and contemporary rock, each of these genre requires a training, and each of them is complicated.

Singing alone requires a different method of training compared to a vocalist who wishes to perform with a band or choir. Each of them requires different level in training. The very first objective for any singer is to sing with talent and skill that results in an outstanding performance or an entertainment for singers and audience alike.

The first thing that should be known is to determine whether a singer is alto, soprano, bass or tenor. It is very important to determine what vocal tone you have in order to define your vocal range and quality, most especially if you are going to sing in a band or choir. To avoid too high pitch and strain your vocals, accompanying music should always be in the singer’s vocal range.

Once you have determined your vocal tone, another important thing also is for you to read instructions in the vocal sheet music. This is very important so as not to hurt your throat and vocal chords.

Most singers if not all are trained to enunciate properly so that the lyrics can be understood. Breathing from the diaphragm is also important when attempting to hold certain notes when you sing. Many professional voice teachers consider this aspect as one of the most important of a vocal lesson. Voice teachers offer various types of breathing exercises so that the music students becomes acclimated to deep breathing from the diaphragm. Singers may develop virtuosity if they will also develop individual style in singing and their vocal technique.

Another singing instruction is performance. A quality vocal lesson provides a range of performance style and lyric delivery. It is important to have your own style in singing so people can distinguish you from the rest.

Always bear in mind that you should take extra care of your voice as well as your vocal chords because it is your capital in singing. If you will hurt your vocal chords or eventually damage it, you would not be able to sing anymore.

As what professional voice teachers always say, constant practice is very important. With constant practice you can improve your singing ability faster.
