If you ever imagined being a pilot as a kid running through the fields with a model plane in your hand making the sounds then you can see what the appeal of getting your hands on an actual working model that you can fly with a remote control hand unit. The great thing in recent years is that RC plane technology has really accelerated to the point that it has become affordable and easy to pick up a plane these days and start flying right away. If you're looking for a plane to fly and you have flown one before you will probably want a plane that is either a beginner's plane or an indoor Plane that uses slow flying technology to enable it to fly in enclosed spaces like your living room. Using both styles of planes will improve you flying skills enough that you will be able to successfully fly more advanced stunt planes and get the most of them with crashing them.
Flying these planes is a skill like any other and its best to start off with planes that are designed for beginners and work your way up from there as if you purchase an advanced plane right away you will have a hard time learning the basics of flying them as you will find the plane keeps crashing on you. You will want to get a beginner plane and practise take off and landings first of all as these are the basics to the sport and you should only start trying tricks once you have mastered take offs and landings. Once take offs and landings are in the bag then you will want to practise hard banks left and right until you can fly tight figure eights in the sky. This will give you a good handle on your planes turning capabilities so you will know how close you can fly towards objects and still turn the plane away in time which is handy if you're flying in area that may have poles or other structures in the way so you don't just smash your plane into them.
Once turning and obstacle avoidance is down pat then you will want to test steep climbs and dives with your plane. As long as you have a beginner plane then even if you stall out at the top of a steep climb your plane should be able to correct itself back to level and just glide slowly back to the ground although you may have to hike a bit to retrieve but doing this will let you know the range that your plane has so you will know what to expect when performing more complicated stunts. Keep in mind that battery strength also comes into play when talking about the range of your plane as a weakly charged battery won't have very much range so be careful if trying to fly it wide of your position. Practising steep dives is also good practise so you will be able to find out how your plane will react when you bring it in low for a flyby but probably goes without saying that you should pull up earlier than later when your first starting out so you can get a good feel of your planes reaction times and always keep an extra propeller on hand as you will probably go through quite a few of them just learning the capabilities of your plane.
Once you have turning and climbs and dives down pat you should have a good handle on your planes capabilities and you can start on the fun stunts like loop-de-loops and seeing how fast and close you can come to the ground when doing a low fly by. When you practising you loops start off with the plane flying just above your head level and hit the accelerator and pull back on the controls to make it do the tightest backward loop you can so you will be able to see how your plane handles. If you try to start the loop while the plane is quite high in the air you run the risk of the plane flying out of your hand control units range and losing control of you plane and having to chase it across the field while it crash lands in the next field over so it's best to try to avoid that if possible or your flying time will be cut prematurely short. Once you have loops down pat that you try barrel rolls and play out your own imaginary dog fights in the air and imagine what you would do if had another plane right on your tail. If you have a friend that owns an RC plane then you can actually stage your own dogfights and try to out manoeuvre each other which are a lot of fun. This is where knowing your planes capabilities inside and out will come in handy and then you will be able to fly circles around your friend's plane.
RC planes are a lot of fun and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a relaxing activity and its fun for all ages from children to the elderly and is a source of endless amusement for people that come over to visit me so I always like to have a couple of beginner planes on hand so that my stunt planes are saved for people that know what they are doing. If you do purchase one for yourself just start out slowly with the tricks and you will be able to master flying your plane in no time and be able to fly your plane in any environment skilfully and safely.
