Flagstaff is the biggest city in Northern Arizona and acts as the Coconino County seat. Wupatki National Monument includes a lot habitation sites created by Ancient Pueblo People around 800 years ago. The Wupatki Pueblo is believed to be home to around 100 people and was permanently abandoned around the year 1225. travelers can walk amid/amidst the ruins and check out how the people once lived. Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument is home to the Sunset Creater volcanic cinder cone. The volcano is believed to have erupted between 1080 and 1150 AD. Visitors can stroll the lava flow trail and forest path.
Heading east of Flagstaff you will find both Walnut Canyon National Monument and Meteor Crater. Walnut Canyon National Monument is only about 10 miles from down town Flagstaff and includes 25 cliff dwellings. These dwelling rooms where constructed by the Sinagua who lived in Walnut Canyon from 1110 to 1250 CE. The Sinagua also lived the Tuzigoot and Montezuma Castle less than 100 miles away from Walnut Canyon and South of Flagstaff.
Meteor Crater is about 40 miles east of Flagstaff and is a trendy tourist destination. Meteor Crater is privately owned and there for not a national monument. It is believed that the crater was formed 50,000 years ago and was unveiled by settlers during the 19th century. Originally the crater was believed to be a volcano. NASA astronauts trained in the crater in the 1960s to arrange for the Apollo moon mission. Visitors can hike the rim on the crater and explore the visitor centers a lot attractions.
heading south of Flagstaff you will find Montezuma Castle National Monument and the infamous Arizona red rocks. Montezuma Castle is based near the town of Camp Verde about 60 miles from down town Flagstaff. Montezuma is not a castle and Montezuma was born 100 years after the spot was abandoned. Montezuma is a spectacular cliff dwelling that house up to 50 people and build by the Sinagua in around 1425 AD.
The Arizona Red Rocks and Sedona are about 40 miles from downtown Flagstaff. Sedona is a resting-place city of its own, and host many fine resorts and spas. Here you can visit Oak Creek Canyon, Red Rock and Slide Rock state parks.
Heading west of Flagstaff you will find one of the most acclaimed holiday locations in the world. The Grand Canyon National Park is about 80 miles from Flagstaff.
