If you have ever thought about doing scuba training, there are a few options that you need to consider; some of these options include your age, where you live, and a variety of other variables. Many people are unaware of how difficult this type of training can be as it puts undue tension on the body and psychologically speaking, it can be aggravating to the mind. When you are underwater, there are many situations that can be life-threatening that you must be ready for and be able to handle. This sport is sometimes riddled with fatalities, making it somewhat unsafe at times. This is, however, not the norm so you shouldn't worry about this type of event happening to you. One way to avoid negative outcomes, especially if you are a veteran, is to get recertification to make sure you remember everything. It is always very important to have a plan of action to execute that incorporates safety at every step.

Open water diving, especially in the ocean, requires a certain level of competency, something that most beginners must have before diving. Competency in the pool may not be the same as operating in the open ocean, something that your instructor will be closely watching. Students trying to get their certification must show that they are equally competent in a river, as well as a lake and the ocean when diving.

All trainees need to feel confident that their instructor will be with them every step of the way. People that receive an open water certification card will have passed every aspect of the diving training. This card is your ticket to renting equipment to do your diving anyplace in the world.

Once you know that scuba diving is for you, your first training course will be in what is called open water certification. To proceed further in your education in regard to underwater diving, you have to take the Advanced Open Water Diver Certification which brings you to the next level. The American international system for certification only applies to those in the US, something you need to be aware of if you are visiting in America or live elsewhere. The Open Water certification trains the diver to descend to sixty feet. The next certification course allows you to go 40 feet further down, reaching 100 feet in depth. There are usually certain prerequisites that must be satisfied before the Advanced course can be taken.

After you are through the confined water portion of your scuba training, then you will move out into the open water. As part of the standard training curriculum, you will need to demonstrate a minimum set of open water skills. The first thing you'll have to do is do a little bit of swimming, specifically 200 m without wearing any gear whatsoever. After this, you have to wear your snorkel, mask, and fans and go as far as 300 yards or meters in the next swim. The final stage is to have each person tread water or float on the water for about 10 minutes. The only test that is not timed, however, is the distance swim.

Some people are actually shocked by their scuba training once they begin because they were not aware of these certain aspects. One of the best parts about this experience is that you will make friends and have experiences that you will remember forever. Many people that travel can interact with people that do what they do, which can be scuba diving and having fun. It is nice to realize that in the years to come you will meet and build relationships with these like-minded people each time that you travel.
