New Zealand Vacation Travel Tips - Killer Travel Apps
There's an app for everything these days, including looking up bad "there's an app for that?" jokes. So it comes as no surprise that there are travel apps that can help you find, size up and book restaurants and hotels and act as an interpreter and tour guide on your New Zealand vacation. The biggest problem isn't finding an app; the problem is finding the right one for you in the mountainous heap of available apps. Which one do you choose?
For Air Travel to the South Pacific
Finding Flights - Using a website such as Kayak will allow you to quickly search and locate flights to just about anywhere. Kayak sets the standard for efficient flight searches. Their app is on par with this level of service too. You only need to give it your destination and travel dates and it will do all the work for you to find the available flights. It presents the results in an easy to understand format by price, time or airline and with a single click you can move on to the website to book the flight.
Tracking Itinerary - You might find it very hectic trying to keep track of all the information involved in travelling, such as gate numbers, confirmation codes, terminal info and all the other little details. There is an app called Tripit that, when you forward over your emails to it, will extract the relevant information and assemble a master itinerary from it that you can access any time and just about any place. (the bottom of a lagoon during a scuba trip might not exactly be a good place to check it.)
Dealing with Layover - It's almost to be expected when flying internationally, the south pacific included that you will have some kind of a layover. There is an app called Gateguru that features more than 98 United States airports and more than 25 international hubs. What this little gem does is helps you easily find food, ATMs, bathrooms, refreshments, lounges and even massage stations. In some cases there are even attached photos as well as rankings or reviews of these items.
The Backup Plan - There is an app called FlightTrack Pro that could be considered as an essential. This app tracks and stores your flight information as well as pulling relevant information such as gate changes or weather that may adversely affect your flight or cause cancellations. This app even has the ability to find connecting flights for you if your flight is cancelled. This can help you make the best use of your down time.
Killing Time While Flying - International flights are long boring affairs anyway and flying to the south pacific is no different. You can only stare out the window at the clouds and the ground for so long. There are millions of game apps on the market for all the various phone operating systems out there. You can even turn your phone into an E-book reader or a mobile movie player with certain apps or services. It isn't always possible to get a connection in the middle of the ocean so streaming probably won't be an option without special hardware or the airlines providing the connection.
