If you want to improve your Ford Mustang's Overall performance, there are alot of things that you can try. Though, there are some common, and tried and true methods that have worked for thousands so you may plan to consider these initially. Here are four techniques that can make your stang run much better, and faster.

Deep Breathing Procedures

It is enormously important for your engine to thoroughly breathe when it runs. Most stock engines are engineered for the engine to run with a minimal amount of emission levels. If you want your engine to breathe more effective, you will need to make a few improvements. Headers and cold air intakes will help your motor breathe a little better.

Mustang Headers

Aftermarket Mustang Headers are not anything new, but they still work. A good set of headers can isolate your exhaust and get rid of a great deal of back pressure on the system. It is not sufficient to just have dual exhaust. Headers go a step further and let your engine exhaust breathe better.

There are several different kinds of aftermarket headers to pick from. For instance, many people are purchasing ceramic headers, these days. They resist corrosion and help to dissipate heat much better than stock headers. They also look a lot better. If you can afford the extra money, they may be an effective option.

Cold Air Intakes

Cold Air Intakes or CAI's are an excellent and extremely straightforward modification that most people can do. Essentially, you just swap your stock airbox with this kind of modification. This intake allows your motor to draw in cool air from outside of the engine bay. Cooler air is more dense than the blistering air under your hood, it also contains more oxygen, and the more oxygen rich cold dense air your engine gets, the better it will run.

There are two basic benefits to cold air intakes. The first benefit is a more effective, speedier running mustang. Next, you can boost your gas mileage, and eventually this modification will pay for itself.

Underdrive Pulleys

Underdrive pulleys refer to larger accessory pulleys (like the alternator) or smaller crankshaft pulleys, than stock. The reasoning is very simple. If your crankshaft pulley is smaller than your accessory pulleys, it will spin faster than the accessories. This means that your alternator and power steering pump may run a little slower, but your motor will run faster. This can give you an increase in horsepower. This kind of modification is not very complicated to perform.

Taller Gears

This enhancement refers to the gear ratio in the rear end of the car. Taller means bigger gears are installed, and this will perform to give more engine torque. It is also referred to as being low geared.

When you car is geared low, you will have a great deal of low end or immediate speed. This is fantastic for passing and overtaking other vehicles on the street. It is also an advantage forcars and trucks that are used for drag racing.

There are disadvantages to taller than stock gears also. You will not be able to run as fast on the highway. It also can lower your gas mileage on the highway.

In our next article we will go over each of these mod's in more detail, covering installation & performance gains over the stock parts.
