For some people problem acne becomes a lifelong issue that requires visiting a dermatologist on a regular basis. Although there are oral and topical treatments, acne laser treatment is a more effective and permanent way to get rid of acne once and for all.

For people that suffer from extreme acne, they may be a slave to these strong medications for the majority of their lives. With laser treatment, not only is the acne and scarring diminished or removed entirely, the glands that are producing the excessive oil will be lowered.

Long term acne can also result in acne scarring. Laser treatment is also successful in removing acne scar tissue. Lasers help to get to the root of the problem and administer the cause as well as the resulting acne.

If you have an occasional breakout or a mild blemish problem, laser is not a good choice for you. It is usually the last resort for people who have not found success with any other remedies and still suffer with severe acne.

When you decide the laser acne treatment is the right path for you, schedule an appointment with a certified dermatologist.

Treatments don't usually take more than 10 to 15 minutes. The procedure is usually done right in the dermatologist's office. In laser acne scar treatment, the doctor uses a wand-like laser that is used to burn off damaged and scarred skin cells. The approach is so precise; the doctor is able to target only the damaged skin, leaving the healthy skin alone.

Your visits will likely be scheduled at least a minimum of a week apart. Everyone heals at a different speed and the severity of the acne and the area to be treated all factor in to the healing process. Your doctor will give you an estimate of the healing time and the number of visits that will be necessary.

Of course, everyone will heal at various rates depending on the depth of the treatment, the particular areas treated and your own healing rate. Most patients can be treated before the weekend and be almost completely healed by the following Monday. Superficial laser resurfacing may cause the skin to become raw, red, or pink with mild to moderate discomfort for 1-2 days following the procedure.

If you opted for a deep facial resurfacing, for deep acne scars, healing may take closer to a full week. You should be able to hide the redness with some type of makeup concealer if you wish to disguise any evidence of treatments.
