Imagine waking up in the morning and not needing to put on your glasses on to see the alarm clock or being able to play sports without the hassle of adjusting eye contacts and being forced to call time out in the midst of a game. Alternatively, what about not having any worries regarding breaking your eyeglasses while on vacation and being stuck without any replacements? Laser eye surgery would save you the time and money of having to deal with eyeglasses and contacts.

Why Laser Surgery?
Laser surgery is a quick, easy and virtually painless procedure with instant results. It is a common procedure where over 75 of people who experience the surgery surface with vision meeting and/or exceeding expectations.

Also with laser surgery, you are saving money in the end. For you would no longer be paying for contact lenses, saline solution for contact lenses, and eyeglasses. You would be saving money decreasing the amount of eye vision costs spent upon your budget. Furthermore, due to the economy everyone is looking to cut personal annual budget costs. Laser surgery would assist you in attaining this goal.

How Does Laser Surgery Work?
The cornea is a part of the eye that helps focus light to create an image on the retina. It works in a similar manner as a camera lens focusing light to create an image on film. Generally, the shape of the cornea and the eye are not perfect and the image on the retina is blurred or distorted. Glasses or contact lenses compensate for the eye s imperfections. However, surgical procedures improve and correct the focusing power of the eye resulting in enhanced eyesight. It achieves this by reshaping the patient’s cornea. It changes the clear part in the front of the eye, allowing the surgeon to alter the path of light passing through the eye of the retina producing effective and successful results.

What to Do Prior to Surgery?
Before scheduling laser surgery, meet with your eye doctor for a thorough eye exam. Discuss if you are a good candidate. Review the risks, benefits, and responsibilities before and after surgery. Be comprehensive during this appointment. Make sure you ask all conceivable questions, and do not schedule laser surgery if you are not comfortable with the procedure. Do not feel pressured. After reviewing the material provided, if you believe it is a good fit, then schedule surgery.

When scheduling surgery, arrange for transportation to and from the facility because your vision may be blurry immediately following surgery. Furthermore, the eye doctor may provide medication to help you relax, which you will impair your driving abilities.

What to Expect During Surgery?
The surgery should take less than 30 minutes. You will lie on your back in a reclining chair in an exam room containing the laser system. The laser system includes a large machine with a microscope attached to it and a computer screen. A numbing drop will be placed in your eye, the area around your eye will be cleaned, and an instrument called a lid speculum will be used to hold your eyelids open. Your doctor may use a mechanical device to cut a flap in the cornea. Your vision will dim and you may feel the pressure causing some discomfort during this part of the procedure. Then when your eye is in the correct position, your doctor will start the laser.
