There are a lot of people who fall prey to the temptations of the so called “grass”, “weed”, or simply, marijuana. A lot of people turn to it for comfort, thinking that this can give them a happy, relaxed and fulfilled life. However, in the long run, they begin to realize that marijuana, after all, is harmful. If you are using pot right now, it is not too late to quit. And it is not impossible.
Most studies show that adolescents even at an early age of twelve are already smoking marijuana. All begins at a simple “try”, out of curiosity, and eventually realize that they are already looking forward to experiencing the sensation again and again. Others do so in their desire to become accepted and recognized to be “cool”. However, whatever the reason, there is not enough ground to justify marijuana use. Its link to neurologic diseases, cardiac ailments, and lung cancer will never make it a safe hobby for everyone. Aside from that, the weed may contain mercury, and its half life of seven days make it more dangerous towards human health.
Smoking, in general, affects the overall health of a person. Marijuana propagates existing illness and motor performance. Like smoking, its primary effects are on the pulmonary tree. Addicts may find themselves with poor memory, with excessive emotional sensitivity, and loss of self esteem. Smoking marijuana will result to deposition of tar that is three times greater than the usual amount deposited in cigarette smoking. Thus, marijuana will never allow healthy physical and mental functioning in an individual.
If you are a marijuana user who wishes to quit, start doing so right now. Upon deciding to stop, decide on how to implement your decision to stop. The decision to stop involves a lot of activities which may prove helpful in achieving your goal. First and foremost, change your mindset. Change it to “unlike” marijuana – and anything pertaining to it. Set your mind to stop using it because there are no benefits linked to it. Remove everything that has anything to do with marijuana – be it wrappers, drawings, music, videos, or any other paraphernalia. Second, choose a new set of friends, and let go of your previous social circle. If you can’t get your previous social circle to follow your footsteps towards quitting, then leave them. Avoid people who encourage you to try it and continue to use it. Next, engage in healthy activities, such as doing a rewarding hobby or becoming busy in sports events. Physical activity not only diverts your attention to better things, it also encourages good development of the mind, body, and the spirit. And most importantly, be humble enough to admit that you need your family and your friends in your decision. Include them in your plan. you will find later that in order to implement your plan, you need your determination, willpower, and the encouragement from the people that look out for you.
No one promised that quitting is an easy task. But it can be done. It is just a matter of time, and the will to do it.
