What are croissants? They are crescent-shaped and flaky French pastries. They can either be savory or sweet but whatever the taste may be it will take a bit of time to prepare. Even though making croissants take a lot of time to prepare, it will still be a worthwhile endeavor. You can amaze your friends with your baking skills if you serve them with delicious croissants. All you have to do is to select the most appropriate croissant recipe and follow the steps thoroughly.

Below is a step-by-step guide in making mouth-watering and delicious croissants. To get started, you need the following:

Croissant ingredients and recipe:

A large bowl
An electric mixer
A plastic wrap
Baking or cookie sheets
A sharp knife
A rolling pin
Oven
A pound of all-purpose flour
A small basting brush
4 tablespoons of sugar
1/2 an ounce of fresh yeast or a tablespoon of dry yeast
12 ounces of unsalted butter (not frozen)
A whole slightly beaten egg for the egg wash
A teaspoon of salt
1 1/4 cups of milk

Instructions:

1. Combine the sugar; salt and flour in the bowl using the dough hook attachment of your electric mixer.

2.The next thing you have to do is to dissolve the yeast in a cup of lukewarm milk. You can now add the flour to the mixture along with the remaining milk and mix them carefully until the dough now forms a ball.

3. After this, you can mold the butter on the block. Then, remove the dough from the fridge and cut a cross in the dough. You can now spread out the parts of the dough so that the middle part will be the thickest part. Then, roll the dough in opposite directions in order to form a 4-leaf clover. Remember to keep the middle part thicker. After this, place the butter block diagonally within the center of the cloverleaf. Once it is done, you can now bring the dough edges to the center. This will enclose the butter completely. Lastly, wrap the dough tightly in a plastic wrap and place in the fridge for about an hour.

4.Once the dough is now chilled, you can now take it out of the fridge and place them in a floured surface. You can pound it evenly and lightly using your rolling pin. Then, roll it into a rectangle that is approximately 9 inches by 16 inches. Once you have completed the 2 turns, you can now wrap it in plastic wrap again and refrigerate it for another 30 mins.

5. After 30 mins, pound the dough again evenly and roll them again. Continue making turns until you do 4 turns. Once the 4 turns are done, you can refrigerate for about an hour.

6. Pre-heat your oven up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

7. Roll the dough out into 2 rectangles, which are 1/6-inch thick. Cut them into triangles and you must shape them into crescents. Afterwards, put them on the cookie or baking sheet and allow them to rise for about 20 mins.

8. Brush the croissant with egg wash and you can now bake them for about 15 mins. or until they are golden brown. You should make around 24 croissants with this recipe.
