A lot of people are overwhelmed when they consider putting in a garden. However, if you take everything one step at a time and tackle projects individually, before long you will have your very own amazing garden.

Consider the kids: Think about how and what your children will do in your garden, when you are planning it out. For example, your delicate plants could get trampled on if you planted them at the edge of a flower bed. Also, if your children play in the middle of your lawn then planting a garden bed there won't be the safest option, even if you want it there. You want to be flexible, so positioning the delicate plants at the back is a good idea and also creating some sort of shield out of a fence would be wise. Letting your children get involved with your gardening project is a great idea. It's likely that they will be more attentive and therefore more cautious if they're involved. Can Mulching Be a Good Idea: Mulching is not a requirement, but is a great addition to the garden and is very worthwhile. If you mulch your garden properly it will make it hard for weeds to germinate and grow. Additionally, it holds in the moisture of the soil so that your plants won't dry out as fast. It also will allow the soil temperature to cool, or warm up, at a slower pace, as not to cause stress to your plants. Throughout the cold months, mulch will guard the roots of your greenery from the cold and also will help stop frost heaving. Once the ground has frozen and then warms up time after time, your plants are literally pushed up and are somewhat exposed. During the summer months, by mulching your plants, you are protecting them from the heat of the sun and as the mulch rots, it adds valuable nutrients to the soil. There are several kinds of mulch, including peat moss, hay, compost, etc.

Garden in a Tub: Gardening can also be accomplished in containers. In fact, you could easily grow quite a few different types of herbs and vegetables in containers. It is of utmost importance to keep your plants moist, planters have a tendency to loose moisture quicker than in other cases. Individual plants require individual soil needs, bear this in mind. A few plants that thrive in bad soil conditions are lavender, thyme and sage. If you keep the soil too moist however, they may rot. Place your plants in spots where you will be reminded to tend to them. You can always put a window box in your kitchen and grow several herbs, such as parsley, oregano and many others. Providing your goals allow it you can have a mix of a beautiful garden, with it's amazing flowers, and a practical garden, offering some different herbs, fruits and vegetables. You will need to do a bit of research on maintaining your plants, as it's important to look after them properly, regardless of what you decide to plant.
