Camping is an amazing past time. It allows us to reconnect with nature and enjoy the outdoors. Most people enjoy leaving the busy city behind and just roam the forest for a weekend or holiday. Camping means living with only the basics and it can be very fun. However, there are dangers you can run into while camping. People are injured and even killed every year while hunting. Knowing what to do in an emergency is vital and can make the difference between life and death.

Getting lost is one of the most basic fears that most campers have. If separated from a group it is always recommended that you stay in one location and keep calling out for help. Moving makes it harder for those looking to find you. Having a map and planning your route in advance can prevent you from getting lost. Know where you plan to go. Remember where you are and how to get back at all times.

Running out of food and water can be dangerous especially if you are lost. Enough food and water should be brought to last the planned trip and a little extra just in case. Knowing the local vegetation and geography can be important if searching for fresh food or water.

Dangerous animals can pose a serious threat to campers. Nature is beautiful but it is also the habitat of some very dangerous and deadly creatures. The dangerous animals you can encounter will depend on where you will be camping. Know which animals live in the area and be prepared to encounter them. In some areas bears will be the greatest concern while in others snakes or scorpions will be. Keep any food high off the ground and out of the reach of any animals. In some areas it may even be a good idea to bring a weapon of some sort.

Even the smallest injury can be life threatening while outdoors especially if help is far away. All injuries, whether large to small, should be treated seriously. A first aid kit should always be available. The ability to call for help can be life saving and planning for these emergencies beforehand can make a huge difference.

Preparation is most important step in keeping yourself safe while camping. Knowing the dangers you can run into while camping and being aware of the potential problems can save lives. Being able to enjoy nature while being safe and having peace of mind is one of the greatest ways to spend your free time.
