In ice hockey, the player hockey sticks are very important, and the most fundamental piece of equipment used. Players utilize the stick to to win control of the puck and is therefore the only way to get goals. Without this part, the sport would be very different and would probably be far less entertaining to play as well. For these reasons, deciding which type of hockey stick a player uses can be a a crucial decision.

The main two types of sticks are: wood models and composite material models. Typically wood sticks are cheaper than the other and are most easily modified to fit the specific hockey player's requirements. A player can reduce the height of the stick by cutting the shaft and can also modify the curve by sanding and taping the blade. Although, the downside to this freedom of modification is that wooden sticks break very easily. Furthermore they are heavier than the other options and are known to warp or bend when utilized often.

Typically composite sticks cost a little more money, but are the favorite choice for almost all NHL players, and are usually lightweight and much more flexible than a wooden hockey stick. These specific kind of sticks can come in one or two pieces, the second option comes with a shaft along with some replaceable blades, which means you will not need to buy a brand-new stick when the blades break or wear out. Similar to other kinds of sticks, composite sticks wear and break, for their major function is to enable a hockey player to shoot the puck harder, not to last forever.

Composite sticks come in five different materials: fiberglass, aluminum, graphite, kevlar, and titanium. Some can be customized just as easily as wooden sticks; however these specific type do have similar downsides to the purely wooden versions. Meanwhile the majority of the others are stronger and lighter with out offering the option of customizing them. It is a good idea to discuss options with hockey professionals, in order to find the right stick best suited to the needs of each player.

In the end, choosing the right type of hockey stick is an individual choice for a hockey player. Although it may seem like a difficult choice to make with all of the options out there, it's merely a matter of being knowledgeable about the equipment. Once a player finds the right stick for them, their on-ice experience will be more enjoyable.
