Kids are naturally creative and enjoy using things to create fun other than what they were originally meant for. Sleeping bags are no exception. Kids just absolutely love the opportunity to be able to use their sleeping bag whether they are camping outdoors or just spending the night at their friends. Here are a few more creative uses your children can enjoy.
Indoor Tents:
When I was growing up, we used to gather all of the blankets and sleeping bags around the house and create an indoor tent. Normal household sheets would work best for the roof but sleeping bags are great to lie out and spread out on the floor so your kids can sleep or nap in. You can drape the sheets from furniture or tack them up to the wall. Since the bags are much thicker than sheets, you could have a few rooms that allow more sunlight (sheets) and a few that are dark (sleeping bags).
Sleepovers:
I can honestly say that I used my own sleeping bag much more when sleeping on the floor at my own house or at my friends' house than I did camping outdoors. It was just an easy and more comfortable way to sleep on the floor.
You could always set up overnight activities that your kids and their friends can enjoy doing while in their sleeping bags for a night over. Watching movies, playing board games, video games, or just watching TV with their friends will certainly be fun for them.
Other Ideas:
You could always set up a real tent in your own yard and let the kids enjoy camping in their own backyard. This is not only fun but can be a great learning experience for your children to get them ready and excited about a real outdoor camping adventure.
Use them for indoor household activities like drawing, telling stories, or playing games. You could have a family indoor camping night where everyone in the family would sleep in their sleeping bags. This will just give you another great opportunity to bond with your family as a whole and your kids will have a lot of fun.
So now you know that sleeping bags aren't only for serious outdoor usage. They can be used for many other things indoors as well. Best of all, the right bags are going to be so comfortable and fun for your children that they will look forward to using them often and you won't have to worry about them being uncomfortable when you finally do your outdoor camping.
