Many people enjoy scuba diving all over the world year round. If you like going into the water, especially if you enjoy snorkeling, you will absolutely love scuba diving as your next sport to master. One of the best ways to learn how to dive is to join a local community center that teaches scuba lessons. This really is not the type of sport that you can learn by reading a book. The rest of your education will come with experience and talking to dive masters and other divers. Those that want to learn more can always take advanced courses that are available after you have learned the basic information. The following will present tips and suggestions that you should consider, specially if you plan on spending a lot of time diving during the summer.

Most veterans understand that the dive briefing that you are given prior to your scuba adventure is extremely important for many reasons. This is something that you must listen to, regardless if you have done the dive many times before. The dive master will always have information that you must listen to. There are many bits and pieces of information that must be followed to the letter including where you're going and what time the dive will actually occur. Even if you have had 20 years of experience in diving, never become complacent in regard to the dive briefing. Not only that, but you never know if something about the location has changed.

More times than not, you will encounter people that have a great deal of knowledge and experience that you can learn from. To make sure that you always have the safest possible experience, keep your diving gear up to par at all times. Some divers actually have difficulty discerning whether or not they are heavy enough for the dive that they're going to go on. If you get this wrong, it is possible that you may exert too much effort while diving which could lead you to breathing too much. All of this will lead to you using too much air far too quickly. Extra special attention should be given to your BC or buoyancy compensator to make sure it does not have air inside.

Another tip to follow is to always begin equalizing prior to your descent in the water. The popular Valsalva maneuver is used by many divers to clear their ears out before going into the water and descending into the deep. No matter who you are, you have probably done this several times before. By gently blowing your nose, while pinching it shut, you can equalize yourself before diving. You should equalize yourself prior to descending into the water using the Valsalva maneuver a few times before going in.

Do not wait until later on because doing this before will serve to pre-pressurize your ears. So before you go under, do this technique, and you will have no problem equalizing the pressure in your ears. Scuba diving has a lot of positive points and should not be considered a sport that takes any special knack; just interest. As well, most people are not able to dive as often as they might like. However, there are still people who live far from any water, and they find a way to enjoy the sport on their own terms.
