Feeding your pet raw dog food can not only make your pet healthier and happier, but can extend his or her lifespan and impact the quality of life of your pet very positively. Pets depend on their owners for their every need, and give them unconditional love and affection in return. For this reason, it is very important to be aware of what your pet is eating, and where it came from.

Dogs are famous for their tendency to eat anything they can get their jaws on, even if it is harmful for them. There is no better example of that than food meant for people. Many things such as onions, tomatoes, and chocolate are perfectly fine for people, but extremely toxic to dogs, and can even be lethal if eaten by a dog.

For this reason, it is always a good idea to feed your pet chow meant for dogs. Most conventional store-bought dog chow comes in two varieties, dry or wet. Dry dog chow has a long shelf life and is usually very cheap and convenient. Wet types, on the other hand, has a high moisture content but can also have higher fat content.

These have been produced for pets, but sometimes, the companies making them care more about their bottom line than about the health and wellbeing of the pets that eat them. Many dog chow brands will have things like brain stems, spinal cords, animal byproducts and bone meal in their chow, even though these ingredients can transmit serious diseases and would be illegal in people chow.

Many things which are dangerous when consumed by humans due to risk of disease transmission, such as brainstems and spinal cords of slaughtered cattle, are routinely put into pet food. Many cheaper brands will contain bone meal or animal byproducts.

There is nothing illegal about companies who put into their pet chow meat from animals who have died of illness, even though they would never dream of using such meal for people chow. Sometimes, grain fillers or protein gels can be made to mimic the look of meat. Since there are no restrictions on packaging, many of these products can be made to look like they are healthy for your pet, when they are not.

There are many businesses which are responding to the need for healthy, raw dog food. These businesses are starting to offer special foods that are prepared with the highest of care and take the needs of pets in consideration.

Many companies are starting to now offer raw dog food. These foods may be more expensive but will protect your pet's health for a very long time. These companies also take care to never put in their animal chow ingredients which would be harmful or toxic to pets. Dogs may not be people, but they, like all other living beings, have complex nutritional needs that must be taken care of.
