Consumer retention is something that many marketers will face if they have not yet experienced it. It is definitely something that no marketer ever wants to experience because of the negative connotations that come along with it. However as unfortunate as it is, this is a very common theme in network marketing which has struck many and left them in a very difficult position. In this article my aim is to share 5 ways with you of how you can avoid this at all costs, and keep yourself safe from the consumer retention that is killing other people and their businesses.
What the hell is consumer retention?
This term refers to the idea of people dropping out of your business like flies. For example over time you may build a team of around let's say 600 people. Then as time goes by, you begin to realise one by one that people are leaving like they are being targeted until the very last person in your downline. So after a period of six months or so, instead of having 600 people or more, you will only have 300 or 200. This is what we call consumer retention or attrition in network marketing.
5 ways to keep consumer retention under control
The first thing you should do to keep this under control and it goes without saying is to do your research and choose a good mlm company to be a part of. Be a part of a business where the product can provide many benefits to its users and is something there is a demand for. Your consumer retention level will be a lot lower if you are a part of a good business with good products which has great benefits to your team and other people.
The second thing you should do and this also goes without saying is to be supportive to your team. You should never take advantage of them or use them in a negative way even if you have built a great relationship with them. They are a part of your team yeah, but they are also your customers and the people that help you make money. So it would be pretty stupid to not be supportive anyway unless you actually want high consumer retention levels? You can be supportive by helping them out, giving them value and recognizing them or appreciating them for their efforts. Nobody likes a sour puss so be supportive and tell them that you appreciate them for everything that they do.
Consumer retention is a pest but the third thing you can do to keep this pest at bay is make your team members feel like they belong. I don't know about you but I have been in network marketing for around 2 years now and the people that I have been listening to, watching and connecting with are all pretty damn awesome. You get the occasional person who isn't awesome but that's ok because for every one sour puss, there are two awesome people in this industry. Anyways I now feel like I am a part of another family and when they succeed, it just motivates me and inspires me to do the same. If your team members do not feel like this or have a sense of belonging, then consumer retention will show its ugly head and make an impact. Don't let that happen because when it does make it's appearance, you will feel it's wrath like when mother nature strikes the earth.
One reason why people drop out is because they were not getting the level of success that had in mind. Now there are many excuses people can create when it comes to this, but if you don't want the consumer retention in your business, show your team how to get results and show them that it does work. For example if you find a new way of building your business and getting better results, tell them about it. Show your team what you did and how you did it. That is what network marketing is about guys. Being helpful and sharing ideas and strategies that will also help others not just yourself.
Their is one final thing you could do, but I would leave it as the last option possible. Many of the big names in our industry get a whole ton of leads that they don't know what to do with them. Getting to this stage and getting 20, 30+ mlm leads a day is not easy but it is possible. The guys that do get these, sometimes give those leads to a team member and let them sort it out. This is great for consumer retention because not only does it show you care about your team and their success, but it can also motivate team members especially if that lead joins the business. Do not do this all the time though because you don't want your team to think that you will do the work for them because that should never happen.
Retention is a right pain in the backside and can be a real headache if it shows itself. However just like there is a solution to every problem, there are also solutions to this headache. Solutions that I have shared with you today. Please do share these solutions with others via Facebook or Twitter and help keep consumer retention in its shackles because that is the best thing for every single marketer out there. :-)
