The law is the body of rules that is placed for the ordering of society. A legal system must be incorruptible so that people who deserve to go to jail are sent there and the world becomes the peaceful place it was when it was created.
It is a good thing that there are different levels of courts, lower level courts and upper level courts. With this separation of powers it is harder for officials to be bribed because a different and unbiased judge might come up with a different verdict on appeal. This system of appeal is a good thing to have if society is ever going to be rid of corruption and bribery.
The level of government influence should be zeroed down to insignificance. When government officials tamper with justice everyone knows that they hardly go to jail. This is not a healthy situation to have because there is no way justice is going to prevail when people have no respect for the law. When a particular verdict has been passed government involvement must be minimized if at all the citizens are going to have respect for the law.
Accountability is mainly about disclosure and openness. If a legal system is going to hide details of court proceedings that the people must hear then what purpose is the system serving? Members of the justice system must be accountable enough to take responsibility for their judgments and decisions if the people are going to do the same, it all starts with them.
