Fnding a cheap source of business electricity need not be as hard as it sounds. While there are a plethora of energy suppliers in the UK there are a number of agencies and energy brokers that specialise in finding you the cheapest business energy deals.
The competition between energy brokers is quite intense and the emphasis these days is in making it as easy as possible for you to find out how much moeny you can save on business electricity. These days, finding a way of reducing your energy bills is as easy as getting a copy of your last electricity bill, looking on google for enery brokers or cheap business electricity deals and ringing around to see how much you can save. Almost all energy brokers can respond within hours with a quote of how much they could have saved you on your last electricity bill.
If you decide to go ahead and sign up with a broker, you will be asked to sign a simple contract guaranteeing you a fixed price for electricity over a period, usually 12 months. In exchange, the broker will get paid a percentage of your savings meaning that there is no cost to you in reducing your energy bills below the level of your last payment. The logistics in switching energy suppliers are also dealt with by the broker. The energy broker will arrange with your existing supplier to stop billing for electricity and for your new low cost energy supplier to take over on a specific date.
So, what are the downsides of using an energy broker? Well, while you will save money on your electricity bill, you will save less money than if you had dealt directly with the energy suppliers. If you decide to do this, the first supplier to contact should always be your existing one. Don't think that your existing supplier will already be giving you the best deal they can - for them it's less work and more money to leave you on your existing, potentially higher cost, energy deal. Sometimes it can be a good idea to ring a couple of other electricity suppliers to get an idea of the savings you are likely to get. You can then use this information when speaking to your existing energy supplier to see if you can get a better deal. For the majority of businesses though, time is money, and the most efficient way of cutting energy costs is to use an energy broker. Even so, always try two or three brokers to see who can get the best deal. While some brokers will claim they can get special electricity or gas deals, the reality is that the energy companies are so large that no-one gets a special deal - instead the extra saving are likely to come from the broker taking a small percentage of the energy savings they hand over to you. Nevertheless since all brokers provide free, no-obligation quotes, spending a couple of hours ringing around may end up saving you thousands on your next year's electricity bill.
