Those who are living here in the United States are being gravely misinformed as to what's taking place everywhere else, especially when it comes to issues having to do with our environment. Elsewhere, the great majority of other countries are working to meet the challenge by making using different types of renewable energy. It takes a huge, virtually inexplicable amount of energy to power the world, more so daily.

Several of our political leaders comprehend the problem, and are actually talking about it. There are a couple of good signs - case in point, the most recent California governor drove a hybrid Hummer. Aside from driving a hybrid, Schwarzenegger likewise got a $3,000,000,000 solar energy program passed, proving himself as green as they come. The federal government, nevertheless, has been falling back far behind, particularly the Bush administration, what with their involvement with the big oil companies. Not only did they do nothing to help the green movement, they refused to even acknowledge there's a problem.

This seems to give most people the idea that things are the same everywhere, but nothing could be further from the truth. It's simply that the US refuses to participate. In Victoria, Australia, they have made a commitment to make use of renewable energy for 60 percent of all of its energy by the year 2016. Think about that being undertaken in the United States, and what it could do. Germany is a leader too; they right now are leading the way in both solar and wind energy utilization. It is Germany's plan that by 2020 at least 20% of their energy will originate from sources that are renewable. Norway doesn't have fossil oil powered energy sources, and uses 99 percent renewable energy. They import no fossil oil. In fact they export almost all their oil, making Norway the third biggest exporter of oil worldwide.

Despite their unstable political situation, Brazil has succeeded in taking the clean energy lead in South America. Ethanol is used for majority of the transportation requirements in Brazil, with their objective being to before long run everything a hundred percent ethanol. Ethanol is a biofuel that is made from sugar cane, and it costs roughly half of a gallon made from oil. America could save over 2 trillion dollars each year just by this one simple step. This just gives you an idea of the steps being made around the world in order to clean our beautiful, green planet up.

Here in the US, we are the biggest consumers of fossil fuels, and emit far and away the most so-called greenhouse gases. We are the problem. Without our help, the rest of the world will likely continue doing their part, but their efforts will be for the most part be useless. As long as we keep our eyes closed and go our own filthy way, the world will persist to unclean.

In America we lead the world in the production of greenhouse gases, being the world's largest users of fossil fuels. We are the problem. Without our help, the rest of the world will probably continue doing their part, but their attempts will be largely for naught. Until the US opens its eyes, and minds, to the problem, there is no hope of turning our wonderful planet back to the natural green state in which we are meant to live.
