You cannot work on your dog alone because once your pet gets out he may still get fleas and pests outside. That is why his surroundings should be treated as well. You could start by washing the dog bed. You should also vacuum the carpets as well as the floors using strong cleaners thoroughly and regularly.
Since peppermint, pennyroyal, lavender, basil and other herbs can be used to implement tick and flea control you can also plant some of these herbs in your yard to minimize incidence of flea infestation.
