With the number of the smart phones being sold at a dramatic rise, the number of mobile applications being sold and downloaded is also increasing. This does not mean that all the applications that are put up for sale on the internet are a successful business venture.

Is there any need of the mobile application?

There is no need of the application that is of no use to the smart phone user. So the first thing that the application developer needs to do is to gauge the need of the application. If the application is of any use to the smart phone user then the application is going to be a success otherwise not. There are other applications already on the internet that can be downloaded by the smart phone user. The application developer needs to study the utility of these applications and find out what other functionalities (besides those offered by the current applications) can be offered through the application which is going to be developed. If there is no need of the application, there is a possibility that the need can be created through other strategies.

Some of the major considerations that go in the making of an enthralling mobile application are as follows.

• Is the application usable?
The usability of the application mainly depends on the ease with which the smart phone user can use it. The user should be able to easily operate the application. The operation of the application should not be so complicated that the user gets confused and irritated with it.

• Is the application useful?
Whether the application is useful or not depends mainly on the functionalities offered through the mobile application. The application should be useful for the prospective client for achieving the desired results.

• Is the application desirable?
When the user uses the application he/she should not only feel comfortable but also like to repeatedly use it. If the user has an acrid experience the very first time he/she uses the application he/she would never like to use it again.

• Is the smart phone user stationary or in movement?
The smart phone user may by working or running while the device. He/she may even be driving. If the smart phone is equipped with the accelerometer the application can come to know the direction and speed with which he/she is moving.

• What is the location of the smart phone user?
The smart phones can be carried and used from different locations on the earth. The GPS can be used to find out the exact location of the smart phone user. This is important because different applications are famous in different corners of the earth.

• Is the Application quick at performance?
The smart phone users are usually always on the run. They hardly have any spare time and want the applications to work as quickly as possible. Suppose the application is for paying any bill so the mobile application needs to transfer the money as fast as possible so that the user comes to know whether the money has been transferred to the receiver's account or not.

• What are the features of the smart phone device?
If you want the mobile application that you have developed to be liked by its users then you need to understand the features of the smart phones, especially the operating system, platform, resolution and screen size.

• What does the smart phone user likes and dislikes?
The purpose of having the smart phone varies at time. This usually depends on the profession and the standard of living. All the smart phone users are not same. The functionality of the mobile application may be liked by some people but could be hated by the other people.

• Have you conducted any market research?
It is possible that the market segment that you targeted constituted of different kinds of people. Now all the people in that particular segment may not like the application. You should try to conduct a small research to know the pitfalls of the applications and where it needs improvement.
