Tamerica s 240 HB presents high volume users such as print shops, binderies and large businesses with a nice option for a comb binding machine that can work with just about any size document. In the following review, we will present you with what we see as the 240 HB s strengths and weaknesses.

Strengths:

1. The 240HB features a design that allows it to be used with all the different sizes of plastic comb spines that are available on the market. This machine can open spines that either oval or round in shape. You can use the 240 HB with spines that are as small as three sixteenths of an inch, or that are as big as two inches in diameter. That means that using the 240HB you can finish binding documents that contain a handful of sheets or reports with as many as four hundred and twenty five pages of 20lb paper.

2. The 14 length of the 240 HB means that you will be able to use it to open combs for binding just about any size document, such as legal, letter, half letter or even A4, and other custom lengths.

3. The 240 HB has a remarkably small footprint, which means that you can place it on the top of many kinds of modular punches. You can also simply place it on the workspace or counter to the side of your binding punch. Its small size also makes it easy to store when you are not using it. That is something you can really appreciate if space is at a premium in your office.

4. The construction of the 240 HB is first rate. It is made of all metal components and should reasonably stand up to years of daily use, even in moderate to heavy use environments.

Weaknesses:

1. On the unit we tested, it seemed that the handle of the comb opener started to slip a little bit when it had a comb loaded on the opener. The machine seems to function a lot better when the handle is tight. We were actually able to tighten it as needed, so it is a correctable issue. If you have this problem you will need to tighten the knob attached to the handle of the opener.

2. The 14 length is pretty versatile and will get you through the vast majority of binding projects. You should know, however, that the machine can get unwieldy if you need to open combs that have more than twenty four loops. For one thing, one of the handles is in the way. All that means is that if you are binding longer books, you will have to insert the last few loops manually. Not a huge deal for a small project, but it could get tedious for a larger one.

3. The 240 HB should be considered a great option for daily high volume use, however, it is a manual machine, and those who work with super high numbers of books may want to look into the benefits of having an electric machine to do this work, as they are easy to use and will raise the level of productivity.
