Chinese medicine is a healthcare system which can treat many health concerns. It includes acupuncture, Chinese herbology and special modalities such as:
Moxibustion
Cupping
Chinese Massage (called "tui na")
Chinese medicine has been around for more than 3000 years and is used extensively throughout the world. It is a system where the whole body is treated, not just the symptoms. This means treating the mind, body and spirit - these three are inseparable in Chinese medicine.
The goal is to balance the body's two forces - yin and yang - thereby achieving and maintaining good health.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a simple procedure in which small needles are gently placed to balance the body's energy, known an "qi." These needles are placed according to precise points known to create specific healing effects.
The acupuncturist arrives at a diagnosis of a patient's constitution and chief health concerns and then creates a unique point prescription.
Does Hurt?
No. A very gentle needling technique is used. The sensation experienced from an acupuncture needle is nothing like that of a hypodermic needle. In fact, acupuncture needles are 1/10th the thickness of a hypodermic needle.
Most patients not only do not mind the needles, but love coming in for treatments. The needles used are always new and 100% sterile for your safety. Needles are disposed of after each use.
Will the Needles Cause Bleeding?
Very rarely.
What Can Acupuncture Treat?
The World Health Organization of the United Nations has identified more than 40 medical conditions which are effectively treated with acupuncture.
Acupuncture is know for treating pain conditions such as migraines, sciatica, low back pain, neck and shoulder pain and indigestion. It also works on gynecological problems such as PMS, infertility and menopause.
Acupuncture is also especially effective in areas where western medicine is not effective, such as viral infections and chronic conditions.
How Long Will it Take to Get Results?
In acute or painful conditions, you may see results on your first or second treatment. For chronic conditions it may take longer. We usually say it will take approximately four to eight treatments to see results.
Can Children Be Treated with Acupuncture?
Yes. However, we rarely use needles on infants and young children. We usually use a machine called an electrostim, which lightly stimulates the acupuncture points on the child and thereby achieves similar results as if needles were used. It is not painful and children enjoy the tickling sensation of the electrostim.
Acupuncture can treat pediatric disorders such as ear infections, colds, flu, coughs, sore throats, digestive problems, ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and much more.
The use of Chinese herbs is also very important in the treatment of children
