The bass guitar is just one of many types of guitars. If you are interested in learning to play the guitar, then the bass guitar is one you can learn very fast and it is with out a doubt the easiest guitar to learn to play. It is one of the simplest to learn and you will be playing in a very short time.

The beat to any song and music is established by either the drums or percussion set or in this case the bass guitar. The emphasis on the beat is very important because it gives the depth as well as establishes a steady timing to the music. The notes on the bass guitar are of utmost important because the bass guitar is more note oriented instead of chord oriented like a regular guitar.

Tuning of the bass guitar is identical to ordinary guitars, only bass guitars have four strings. To properly tune the
bass guitar, you should be familiar with tuning a regular guitar. This will enable you to be a better bass player.

The guitar should be placed on your thigh and use your forearm to make any adjustments necessary to be comfortable. The neck of the guitar should be supported by your right hand if you are right handed or left hand if left handed. Your thumb needs to be on the string that is midway down, which is the E string, and the string that is two strings down from the E string is the D string and your index and middle finger should be on this string. Now try plucking each string one at a time.

In the beginning you will need to do a lot of finger exercises by rapidly lifting your fingers one at a time to improve not only your finger placement, but the strength needed to play the guitar. As time goes on you will become stronger and have better finger placement.

Learning to play the guitar will require a lot of repetition, practice and desire, as with learning all musical instruments. So take your time a work on just one lesson at a time and don't try to get too far ahead of yourself. Feel the notes as you practice and play, this will be a big help.

There are many ways to get instruction on learning to play the guitar. The more familiar options are the get a qualified instructor to teach you, the only downside to this approach is the expense. Another option is to go to your local music store and purchase a book to teach you bass guitar, this is the method most likely not to succeed. The best option in my opinion is to use the internet to get into a good online guitar course.

Even though it is best to start learning the bass guitar at a young age, the younger the better, it is still never too late to learn the guitar as long as your are motivated, patient and have a true desire to learn the bass. Just remember to devote enough time to each lesson and you will be playing in no time. Remember to have fun with this new adventure.
