AGNES MOORE, originally from Drogheda, who made her home in Ganderstown, Clogherhead, died on March 8 after a short illness.
The daughter of Kevin and Mary O'neill, Agnes was certainly one of a large family - Kevin (RIP), Frankie (who died aged 22), Noel (who died being an infant), Richard, Gerry, Brigid (who died as a possible infant), Maureen, Olive, Doreen, Bernie and Carmel.
Agnes left school aged 14 and worked inside Boyne Mill until her marriage to Larry Moore from Ganderstown, whom she met with a dance in The Whitworth Hall.
Always joking, Agnes danced round her parents' home in Pearse Park about the eve of her wedding wearing her wedding gown and wellies ahead of her move out the country!
She had a great a feeling of humour and played practical jokes on family and friends, with her sisters often finding frogs within their beds! Agnes maintained her passion for a good laugh all her life.
She raised five children - Mary, Irene, Geraldine, Ann and John - as she threw herself wholeheartedly into country life, joining Termonfeckin ICA, the local Set Dancing club representing her area inside the annual Scor competition, winning several awards along the way, and seemed to be active in the Variety Club. She enjoyed singing and dancing and was quite talented. Since a child she took part in the Drogheda Pantomime.
Never idle, Agnes worked part-time inside the Horticultural College, An Grianan, catering for your students. She did seasonal operate in Butlins, Mosney and Aisling Caravan Park, Clogherhead, and helped the curate in Termonfeckin, even wallpapering Fr Mcveigh's house! She also attended events in Clogherhead Community Centre.
Women with strong faith, Agnes proceeded pilgrimage to Lourdes regularly, as well as Medjugorje, Fatima, Knock and other shrines. She raised funds for Mell Parish, Drogheda and was about the Altar Society in the Dominican Church, Drogheda.
In 1988, she and Larry moved back into Drogheda with their two youngest children. She enjoyed being in and walking down town as she never drove. She was devoted to the Dominican church, coupled with a great friend in Fr. Harrison.
She loved an evening out with Larry, maybe to Flynn's pub in Termonfeckin or perhaps the Trinity Arms, Drogheda.
The couple enjoyed holidays around Ireland, visiting Killarney or Donegal, later venturing abroad on sun holidays. She loved bingo in St. Mary's and the Parochial Centre before that, or in the Aisling ballroom, along with great friend and bingo partner, Betty Kirwan, additionally a widow.
Betty and herself enjoyed many outings and trips. She sometimes visited daughter Irene in Bournemouth, England, high was lots to see and do within the seaside town. She also enjoyed holidays with Irene or daughter Ann after Larry died. She'd have the whole family in stitches laughing for the complete holiday! Her family is comforted by these wonderful memories now.
All her life Agnes facilitated others, not having herself so as her family would have a little extra. She encouraged her littermates to spend their summer holidays with these close to the sea, packing their property full of family and friends for holidays to consider. She would mind other people's children permit them have a break away, and loved in your thoughts her grandchildren.
Very house proud, Agnes' home gleamed! She was famous for tidying and cleaning, so a tin of Mr Sheen polish was aptly chosen as a possible altar gift.
Agnes was in a healthy body all of her life until diagnosed with cancer at Christmas.
She had treatment in The Lourdes Hospital and St Luke's, Dublin. She never were unsatisfied with her situation, planning ahead, organising her funeral, as well as leaving cards and gifts for upcoming birthdays.
In her final few weeks, Agnes was attended through the Palliative Care team, Community Care nurses and Hospice nurses, have been most attentive and caring.
She passed on in the Lourdes Hospital on 8 March.
She reposed aware of removal to Our Lady of Lourdes church where Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr. Harrison, Dominicans, and Fr. Nulty PP, St. Mary's parish.
Music was by her cousin, Amie Dyer, readings were by sister- in- law Lillian O'neill, and granddaughters Eleanor Cannon and Danielle Dimambro.
Prayers in the Faithful were offered by grandchildren Aaron Dimambro and Lauren Hay, daughter-in-law Leona Moore and son-in-law Grant Hay. Offertory gifts were presented by brother Gerry O'neill and sister Olive Sheridan, with granddaughters Nicole Dimambro and Shannon Hay presenting Mr. Sheen, a Bingo Book and a Medjugorje statue. Her son and five grandsons carried her coffin. She was laid to rest in St. Peter's cemetery along with her husband.
Agnes Moore was predeceased by husband Larry in 1995, siblings Kevin, Frankie, Noel and Brigid. She's survived by children Mary, Irene, Geraldine, Ann and John, sonsinlaw, daughters-in-law 15 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, lifelong friend Betty Kirwan, relatives and a wide circle of friends.
