If you are planning to get into the hobby of racing RC cars, then you need to know the types of choices that you will have ion order to understand and match your own particular demands. There are two main types of RC cars as far as the power source is concerned. The Electric RC cars which run on batteries and the RC nitro cars which run on nitrogen based fuel. Both have their advantages and disadvantages depending on the situation and circumstances.

The electric RC cars are more popular among children, but they may not be a bad choice for first time RC car users either. Its popularity grows from the fact that both kids and adults mostly start with an electric RC car and then upgrade later and that too, if they are really serious about the hobby racing. The facts that they are smoke less and do not make a great deal of noise either, only helps boost their demand. It is due to their clean nature that they are also allowed indoors if you do not have the option of running it outside at that time. An electric RC car’s maintenance may be limited to just storing the battery pack properly and recharging it well.

An electric RC car is not perfect in every aspect though. They are fine for learning the controls and initial hobby driving, but if you are more interested in competing in RC car races that stage some of the fastest RC cars around, you will find your RC electric car to be too slow compared to the RC nitro cars. They are known to have excellent torque but not the speeds necessary in these competitions. Another more common disadvantage is its limited runtime. As the electric RC cars are dependent on battery packs to run, they stop whenever the batteries run out of charge and must wait again until and unless they are recharged again.

A RC nitro car is unmatched when it comes to speed and runtime. As these RC cars are dependent on nitro methane fuel to run on, they can easily be refueled if they run out of power. This ensures that you are able to run your RC nitro car for as long as you wish to without a single long break. The motor engine which is made in ways that is somewhat similar to actual sports car engines is capable of producing amazing power and speed impossible for a battery based RC car to reach. However, it is not suitable for beginners or children due to certain reasons. They are smoky and noisy, so it is not ideal for indoors and not quite suitable for children. The high speeds that the RC nitro cars reach are hard to control, imagine how hard it could be for a beginner to control a RC nitro car at 70mph in a tight corner! These are harder to maintain as well because they are made like real race cars and thus they require real maintenance of their parts. Choose your RC car wisely depending on your experience level, budget and needs.
