Preparing for a cruise can be arousing enough but it gets even more thrilling when you leave from a classic American port like New Orleans. New Orleans has developed leaps and bounds in the cruise business over the past twenty years and has quickly become a must cruise from city for all cruisers. If you have never been to New Orleans here are a few things to think about when planning your cruise out of New Orleans.
Where to Cruise
Cruises from New Orleans go throughout the Western Caribbean to noteworthy places like Cozumel, Jamaica and Costa Maya. Really look out for the cruises that call on Belize and Roatan for an unique experience that includes cave tubing, Mayan pyramids and some of the best snorkeling in the world. Cruises from many of the topmost cruise lines including Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Norwegian cruise from New Orleans starting at under $400. That makes New Orleans a tremendous choice for budget minded cruisers.
Where to Stay
Ordinarily when cruising it is a good idea to look for a hotel that will allow you to park your car for nothing during your trip. This is because parking can run as much as $15 a day. However, with New Orleans there isn't much parking available for the hotels and they are constrained to rely on local parking garages for guest parking. This means you are going to bepaying for parking no matter where you stay and the rates are about the same. On the bright side this also means you can stay anywhere you like. Stick with some of the name brand hotels such as Holiday inn, Comfort inn and Hyatt in the French Quarter and you will be in the heart of all the action as well as only a few blocks away from the cruise port.
What to Do
A voyage to New Orleans isn't complete without a stop on Bourbon Street so you should head there first to experience the best of New Orleans. While there, don't forget to step into one of the many awesome Cajun restaurants for a feast you won't soon forget. Other attractions positioned within a few blocks of the cruise terminals are the Aquarium of the Americas, Harrah's and the butterfly exhibit. There are many of other prominent attractions outside the French Quarter as well. If time is available be sure to at least stop by the Garden District and the New Orleans Zoo.
