Most of us are aware that increasing our self confidence would be a great benefit to ourselves because a person who is lacking self confidence is easy to spot out. If you are lacking self-confidence, you are much more likely to let people treat you badly or take advantage of you. You may even feel yourself falling short of your potential at work and at school. If any of these above descriptions sound like you, chances are, you need to work on your self-confidence a little. Building self-confidence is not an easy thing to do. Never fear, there are some helpful tips to help get your self-confidence where it should be and to continue to build it.

One of the most important things contributing to self-confidence is for you to like the person that you are and this might be difficult if you were raised in an environment devoid of unconditional love. That doesn't mean that your parents didn't love you - but some may have had trouble showing or expressing it, or they may have been so anxious for you to grow up 'right' that some disapproving messages were sent out instead. We absorb things unconsciously while we are children and then believe them as truth when we become adults. When beginning to build on your self-confidence, it will be a time to let go of self-critical thinking and beliefs. No matter where you are right now, it is a good place to start. Cutting yourself down over what you think are your flaws won't get you anywhere, so the first thing is to start turning those thoughts into something more positive.

Second, try to identify what you are really good at and enjoy, and perfect that skill. You will have high self-esteem if you are good at what you do and get positive feedback. Success and accomplishment breed self-confidence. Of course, most of us have the idea that we do not enjoy hard work, but if you find something to do that you truly like and is right for you it does not feel hard at all. Once that happpens, you will likely feel confident, skilled and become more productive.

And lastly, a good way to continue building your self-confidence is to do things that you fear and challenge yourself a little. Begin by trying something simple and new, without stretching too far out of your comfort zone. Think of this as your foundation and go on from there. The more risks you take, the better you will feel about yourself. If you really enjoy life and the work you are currently doing, building self-confidence should be a natural by-product. It tends to evolve on its own than an element that you work on, and the rewards are wonderful through out your life!
