The killing of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed 17 year old black teen, by George Zimmerman, a 28 year old self-proclaimed Neighborhood Watchman Captain, is not about race as it was portrayed by the main stream media. It is, nevertheless, a black and white case. Prior to telling you why, allow me talk a little about the main stream media 's role in this tragedy.
The media happens to be giving us the same narrative which can be explained as follows; "there is absolutely no doubt that if this was in fact a black guy who had shot an unarmed white boy, the black guy would definitely have been arrested." However this is nonsense. If a black guy, who is a member of the neighborhood watch, had shot in "self-defense" an unarmed white teenager in a Florida neighborhood where there was indeed a series of break-ins perpetrated by younger white men, the Stand-Your-Ground-Law could have equally applied to the black guy. No one can ascertain what would have happened. For the media to generalize and report their thoughts as facts is irresponsible given that it adds fire to an already racially-tense tragedy.
This tragedy is not about race, nonetheless it is a black and white case. George Zimmerman's choice to disregard the guidance of the authorities and follow Trayvon caused the death of this particular young man. period! For me there are no shades of grey in this instance. Zimmerman's dumb choice makes him the one responsible for Trayvon's death. Must he be arrested for his conclusion? That's for the law to decide.
