Edinburgh grew in medieval times to be the capital city of Scotland, home of royalty. It has an important place in the history of Britain. Edinburgh became a seat of rennaisance and modernist learning. The old town in it was built during medieval times while the new town was added in Georgian times as an upmarket district. The 1707 Act of Union took away the Parliament but it was restored with devolution in 2001.

Edinburgh is not only the home of Scotland’s parliament now but is also a centre of legal and banking institutions. The city has to offer so much like, historic buildings, panoramic views, fine shopping and dining facilities. Being a major financial centre, it is a buisy and a hardworking city. It has a population of over 400,000 and is the heartland of scottish culture.

ATTRACTIONS IN EDINBURGH: Scotland has five national art galleries and all these are in Edinburgh. The heart of Edinburgh is the Edinburgh castle, which is a historic and architectural masterpiece. An extinct volcano in the middle of the city, named, Arthur’s Seat. This spot provides panoramic views. The Pentland Hills is an ideal spot for hillwalking on south, ern fringes of the city. The Edinbrgh zoo and the Historic Centre are also amongst the top attractions in Edinburgh.

TRANSPORT: the main station in Edinburgh is Waverly. The city is connected to London through the East Coast line. Then there are buses which form the bulk of Edinburgh’s local transport. The city also has a small international airport. It is linked to Glasgow via M8.

PROPERTY IN EDINBURGH: the city has plenty of apartments and flats in the centre. Mostly there are older buildings like London rather than new build in the manner of many cities. Also there are many Family homes outside the centre. There aren’t mant skyscrapers for the sake of keeping with the historic line in which a skyscraper would be as incongruous as a UFO. Prices are well above the average for both Britain and Scotland, but as a whole the market is not as cyclical as the overall UK trend.

EDUCATION IN EDINBURGH: Edinburgh has three universities, namely, Edinburgh university, Herriot-Watt university and Napier university. University of Edinburgh was formed in 1582 as one of the mediaval learning institution in Scotland. Its alumni include Gordon Brown, making it the only non Oxbridge university attended by a british prime minister.

HOSPITALS: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Western General Hospital and the Eastern General Hospital are the major hospitals in Edinburgh.
