We would benefit more if we spent a little time improving our ability to manage our time more efficiently. Anyone can take better control of managing their time, even if the general consensus is that it isn't possible to make much of a difference. There are good reasons why time management experts recommend that you start with your biggest goal, but then break it down into smaller steps - and even break these steps down into manageable chunks. What this does is it takes a huge project and reduces the steps into goals you can accomplish. Here's why you should follow this procedure. It's actually more efficient, and easier, to complete several smaller, quicker steps towards a big goal. Whether it's a big goal that has finally reached completion, or one step towards a big project, the completion of any goal, or step, on your schedule gives you a good feeling. When you look at your list of tasks, and you see the small projects, you won't feel so overwhelmed and it will be easier to complete the tasks, one by one. What are the important things in your life that you want to do? Write them down on a piece of paper. It's been shown that if you write something down with a pen onto paper, it is better than simply typing it into your computer. Writing by longhand makes the list more memorable. This is also a convenient way to remind yourself if you start to drift away from the task at hand. You can simply stick the list on your refrigerator with a magnet and review it from time to time. Handwriting your goals down also helps them feel more permanent than simply typing them into your word processor. Just the act of actually writing the words on paper makes the worlds more relevant.

Remember, you need to allow time in your schedule for some flexibility. You don't want every minute scheduled. It gives you a sense of accomplishment to see that you have an organized list of all the things you want to get done during a particular day. If you try too hard to stick to a minute by minute schedule, however, you will burn yourself out and increase your stress levels. Most of your time won't be spent on paying attention to your work, you'll be too busy keeping an eye on what time it is. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't make at least a loose plan, though. The type of schedule that can be modified if something unexpected creeps into your day. You'll then have the best of both words - some structure to what you need to do, but flexibility so you don't stress out.
