Stress is a normal part of life, but not everyone is capable of managing it properly. Stress is a cause of disease and illness. In many cases long-term stress leads to chronic health conditions. This means stress management is a do or die situation. Some stress is positive, so do not panic. For instance, those who sometimes face career stress are often happier with their work. Think about how you feel before you make a big presentation and you will see an example of positive stress.
The issue is not all stress is based on temporary terms, nor does it always lead to relief. Ongoing stress causes illness and disease. Over time you you face a greater risk of illness. This makes managing ongoing stress a major priority. Managing chronic stress enables you to maintain good health.
The first step to managing ongoing stress is to maintain good health habits. The stronger you are the easier it is to manage stress. Take time each day to exercise. It does not matter how busy you are, make time to workout at least every other day. No matter your situation, set aside 20 minutes or so to exercise. Eating right is also important. Your body will be healthier when you feed it well. Your body responds poorly when starving. Make sure you prepare for food challenges. Another great way to reduce stress is to have a solid life plan. Nothing feels worse than having no direction or purpose in life!
Sleep is important too. Quality sleep results in a refreshed feeling. Though you might end the day tired, you should start the morning feeling rested. Waking up and still feeling sleepy means your rest was not refreshing. Exercise, eating right, and getting rest prepares you for the worst. The key to keeping stress under control is to make sure you are strong. Even when stress arises, staying healthy helps you cope better.
Another key to managing chronic stress is to avoid stressful matters. You cannot eliminate them altogether, but you can manage them. Stay away from people who cause stress. Sometimes you have no choice but to face stressful people. No matter the stress you face, those who support you will help. If you are facing a particularly stressful situation and a friend or relative adds to the problem, stay away from them. You should never allow other people to make your stress worse.
Prepare for stress with a plan. Most people know when stress is on its way, so be prepared. A great example is the winter season when you know things will get crazy. Eliminate what is not necessary and come up with a way to tackle things you must do. Sometimes all you need is a stress plan.
Last but not least make things as simple as possible. Some people commit to too much just because they think they are supposed to. Cut out the things that do not bring you joy. Keeping things simple is often the key to a happy, healthy life. And, like I said, have a solid life plan, as this will make your life simpler. Best of luck!
