Over the years, man has become dependent on stainless steel uses. It has become an essential piece of metal for a wide range of things. Ever since its discovery, we have not ceased to find uses for it. It seems that we always come up with things to use it for.

We all know that the construction industry considers it a “need.” For the longest time, this industry had depended so much on carbon steel but they eventually found it to be corrosive. About a hundred years ago, European metallurgists discovered that when you mix carbon steel with chromium, it renders the metal significantly less corrosive. However, they never did try to use it in construction. Many, many years later, during the 20th century, Americans created a formula using steel and 11 chromium, which later became known as “stainless steel.” Due to the chromium content, this kind of steel is more resistant to corrosion and staining. Though it can rust, this can be completely prevented and removed simply by cleaning.

What makes stainless steel so popular?

Stainless steel uses are aplenty because builders and users alike consider the benefits it will bring to the table. Some of these are:

1. It is durable and strong. It can withstand all weather conditions. It can also survive exposure to various chemicals.

2. It does not corrode.

3. It is easy to maintain. Cleaning it only involves a special stainless steel cleaning solution and a piece of cloth.

During the 1930s, New York made a bold move to use steel to build the Chrysler building. Its roof was made of mild steel sheet. This has opened new possibilities on the use of steel in buildings. On the other hand, the construction of the Gateway Arch was also a breakthrough. At 603 feet, it was the largest man made monument in the US, and it was made entirely of stainless steel. Both structures proved that using stainless steel will give more benefits in any kind of construction, and ultimately became very instrumental to man’s preference of this kind of metal.

You will find so many stainless steel uses today. While in the beginning, its uses were limited to cutlery, today you will see it being used in building structures, medical operations, and many, many more.

You can find stainless steel uses in other areas such as:

Medical instruments such as surgical knives

Lighting fixtures such as the holders used for fluorescent lights

Household appliances such as components of air conditioning and television

Backyard grills

Commercial kitchens such as those you can find in restaurants

Jewelry such as stainless steel bracelets, rings, and necklaces

Restaurant furniture

Many of today’s commercial interiors are also made of stainless steel, particularly for those industries that cater to high risk jobs such as in factories and manufacturing. Additionally, many home fixtures are also made of stainless steel such as patio furniture and even some kitchen fixtures like our good old sink.

Many businesses prefer it because of the benefits it can provide. It is always the practical thing to use.
