Why does every guy you start a relationship with wind up either running for the hills or deciding you're like a little sister to him? Why is it that as soon as you start to feel that he might be boyfriend material that everything just falls apart? Is it you or is the universe plotting against you and your ovaries? Not that it really matters why this always seems to happen, it has to stop, right?
We try to laugh about it but it's getting old. You just want to get a boyfriend and not be alone anymore. You want the guy to choose you over some other girl. It's always the same. Right about the time that you are starting to think that things might work out, you can sense the storm is brewing. You almost resign yourself to it these days. As soon as you start to feel that you're falling for him you can be sure that he'll break the news to you that he has met someone and they have decided to be exclusive or he wants to sit you down and tell you what a great friend he thinks you are.
While the real reason why this happens might be difficult to handle, it's not the end of the world and you can do something about it. Your problem is that you're too nice. Now, don't go running off deciding that you're suddenly going to become selfish like all the other girls out there. For you, it's probably not possible anyhow. While selfish girls might get more attention from guys because they're more of a challenge, you've probably noticed that guys tend not to stay with girls like this. They get sick of their behavior and soon the girl is on to the next guy that thinks that she's pretty or who wants to try to change her.
You're different though. You're not selfish at all. As a matter of fact, once you're into a guy you put all your effort into making him happy and working on your relationship. You're happy and you want him to be happy. You think of him first and you try to be thoughtful and romantic. You're not annoying or needy when you're in a relationship. You just want everything to be perfect and you want the relationship to move forward.
While you might think that this is every guy's dream, it scares the hell out of most guys. While you're just trying to do your best to make everything right in the relationship your potential boyfriend senses that you're almost coaxing him into being your boyfriend. You kind of start acting like his girlfriend before he's probably ready and this is what changes his attitude towards you. He might feel cornered or simply that things have changed somehow that he can't explain. Either way, he starts to feel differently and he shuts down on you or finds another girl to sabotage your relationship.
As your next relationship starts to unfold, understand that although you're just trying to be nice and to show your feelings for the man of your dreams, this might be a little too much for him to handle even if you haven't said the word "boyfriend" or "girlfriend". Keep on being yourself and let things progress from being friends towards more intimate things. Remember that the basis of the best and longest lasting relationships is true friendship. Focus on that and the hand holding and hugging and kissing will come in due time. Let him decide for himself that you are the one that he wants by his side always and you are the one that he wants to be his girlfriend.
