Curating any exhibition can be difficult, even those that are neatly kept in a designated space. That being said, outdoors exhibitions can be some of the most difficult to curate bar none. There are a few different ways that you can curate this type of exhibition to make sure that your guests get the full benefit of the exhibit.
Â
Easy Ways to Curate
Â
• Radio Stations and Pre-Recording
Â
• Step By Step Tour Guides
Â
• Video Introductions
Â
The first and perhaps most common way to curate this type of show is to use a radio or pre-recorded curating. This means having one curator that is broadcast over a certain radio frequency so that each person near a receiver or with a set of headphones and a radio set to that wavelength can hear what is being said. This is especially good if you have a larger number of people at once and find it difficult to give each person their own special attention. With pre-recorded curating you can either have head phones or you can simply have a speech on loop that plays at each phase of the exhibit.
Â
Though the aforementioned method is perhaps the most common and the easiest to get running, it can also be very expensive to purchase or rent the equipment that is necessary for it to run smoothly. If this is an issue for you it may be necessary for you to station different curators at each phase of the exhibit, each of which have their own parts to memorize and deliver when confronted by guests. This is best if you want to make sure that guests can ask questions and truly feel as if they are a part of the exhibit. Though this is not as expensive as having a radio system installed, it can get costly as you will have to pay each person for their time.
Â
The last and perhaps most economical way to curate an outdoors exhibit is to gather your visitors together for a brief introduction to the exhibit prior to setting them free to explore. By doing this you can provide them with basic information needed to understand what they are seeing and you do not have to pay for loads of extra equipment and people. Though this is cheaper, it may be harder for your visitors to retain what they have learned as they walk through your exhibit. This can be remedied by using plaques and other curating devices at each phase of the exhibit to remind your viewers what they have learned and what they are experiencing.
