When it comes to weight loss, there are several different schools of thought. There is the faction that advocates exercise over all other strategies. There are also those who feel that diet, and dieting techniques, are the most important factors involved. There are also people who feel that drugs and chemicals (diet supplements, dietary aids, medications etc.); both over-the-counter and by prescription, produce the best results.
In fact, a combination of all of these approaches is needed to really bring about any kind of positive effect. It also depends how much one is actually overweight. In extreme cases, surgical procedures may be the only remedy. This article is mainly geared to address the weight issues faced by those who are seeking to lose 10-20 pounds, or maybe reduce 4-5 inches off of their waistline.
Wjenn starting out on your weight-loss journey, it is important to set goals, but it is equally important to allow for flexibility, especially in the beginning stages. The only thing worse than getting frustrated at failure is to allow that frustration to completely eliminate your desire.
You must always remember that no one is judging you except yourself. You should also keep in mind that it is much more conducive to your success (again, especially in the beginning stages) to allow yourself to fail, and to be more lenient in your own judgment. Do not set goals which are too low, but be aware of the difficulties that you will face and plan accordingly. The last thing you want to do is to quit out of frustration because you have set your goals too high or you are judging yourself too harshly.
As previously mentioned, diet, exercise, and medication should all be utilized in some combination. However, while there may be many substances available which are highly effective, probably the best method is simply the common-sense approach of EATING LESS AND EXERCISING MORE!!!
While this may seem almost insulting in its simplicity and obvious benefits; not to mention the fact that it is much easier said than done, the importance of burning more calories than you take in cannot be overstated. All too often people will venture into a weight-loss program without considering this very basic fundamental concept.
If one is to take their weight loss seriously, a general knowledge of the amount of calories in each meal that they are ingesting is vital. In addition, an approximate value of how many calories are burned with whatever activities and exercises an individual is undertaking is also helpful to the cause. These two measures are absolutely essential to keeping track of one's progress, and will more easily enable him or her to reach their desired goals.
While this basic tenet comprises the requisite foundation of any weight-loss program, it certainly does not hurt to expand upon this first step toward your goal. As a matter of fact, without complementing this foundational framework and state -of-mind, one would probably reach a level of minimal weight-loss, but not much more. In order to achieve substantial and permanent results, it is highly recommended to research as many options as is feasible for each individual's lifestyle and schedule.
