Proper exercise can do wonders to relieve back pain. Talk to a therapist or doctor about weight lifting, stretching, or various other exercises that can help improve the muscle strength and flexibility in your back. Keeping back muscles strong will increase spinal support and decrease pain.

Contrary to what many people believe, it is crucial that people who suffer from back pain exercise often. Exercise reduces back pain, despite the fact that many people who suffer from it think that the opposite is true. Stretching back muscle can actually help ease the back pain for a large amount of people.

A great way to stop back pain is my laying on the floor with your feet and hips flat against the floor, your knees bent and in the air. Tuck your heels as close to your behind as they will go without causing you discomfort. This position helps reduce back stress than many sitting positions. Do not stay in the same position too long. Look for a comfortable spot and be careful not to twist your spine.

If you weigh 10 or more pounds than what you should ideally, then it's time to start a weight loss plan. Increased weight, especially around the abdomen, tends to alter the gravity point of your body. This places excess strain on the lower back muscles, and prolonged excess strain will eventually cause chronic lower back pain.

If you must carry a bag, or other item that weighs a lot, constantly shift the item from one side of your body to the other. If you continually carry the load on only one side of the body, it will cause stress in your back muscles which may cause some pain later.

If paralysis occurs, there are some cases that can be repaired with some type of surgery. It depends on situation and how extreme the case is. There are other back conditions, although rare, where there is no other option but surgery. Degenerative damage usually cannot be reversed, but surgery may prevent further degeneration.

If you do need to sit in a specific position for a long time, like in a movie theater or an airplane, cross your legs. Leg crossing uses back and hip muscles, so it is good to move them to keep cramps or back spasms from setting in. You should alternate which leg you cross so that you are using the muscles on each side of your body evenly.

Use a heating pad on your back to relive back pain. The heat helps relieve back pain by dilating the blood vessels and stimulating circulation in the back which increases the oxygen flow to those muscles. Heating pads are convenient to use wherever you may be sitting or lying down.

To help prevent back pain, never slouch while you are doing anything on your feet. For example, many people mistakenly bend over the entire time they vacuum. If vacuuming is something you bend consistently over for, then you are inviting back pain later in your day. Use your legs to push the vacuum and keep your back straight as you work, and you will find that your pain is greatly reduced.

Do you have back pain? Don't twist too much during the things you do each day. If you lift something heavy incorrectly, or twist the wrong way when doing simple chores like cleaning, you are at risk of injuring your back. Sports can be particularly bad for your back, as you are often moving your back and spine in odd ways. Make sure to take it easy if you start feeling pain.

Water therapy can be beneficial to those who have back pain. The water supports your body's weight so your bones and muscles don't have to do it. Water takes the weight off of your spine and joints and allows you to move much easier. Most community recreation centers have water therapy.

You are not alone in your struggles with back pain. You should now be able to treat back pain, without medications and frequent doctor visits.
