Planning for vacations often includes travel and excitement, whether the journey is long or the destination is close by. Something enticing about the water, from a stream playing across the rocks to a mighty ocean, draws travelers. Waterfalls draw the light of the sun and create remarkable rainbows while surface water gleams as it sparkles with each wave. The Dominican Republic is a vacation destination for residents of many countries, some who come to visit for months at a time while others enjoy a few days of the mystique.

The lagoon offers a more peaceful swimming opportunity with limited tide and wave action, while the white sand leads to the glimmering blue water of the ocean. The opportunity to relax on the beach is too good to pass up, whether lying on the sand or enjoying the cooler mat shaded by a tree or cabana. People quickly understand how the warmth of the sun, impressive views and activities draw the crowd to the beach each day.

Tourists are pleased to return for another visit when they think back and recall the beauty and entertainment found in the different regions of the Dominican Republic. Those who heard stories from their friends and acquaintances about the grandeur of the country and the delicious fruits available each day are thrilled to finally arrive and experience it for themselves. Make a list of the five places or events you want to see and do while visiting, noting times of operation to avoid missing them. And don't forget, you can also study Spanish while you're enjoying yourself!

Christopher Columbus and his crew landed in the Dominican Republic centuries ago. Not only were the beaches beautiful, the amount of food growing in the area amazed the visitors, as well. The inhabitants were likely impressed with what to them were large ships as the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria sailed into the bay. Rather than travel by small canoes, they may have wondered about how to operate the ships. Puerto Plata International Airport welcomes the planes that bring guests happy to travel so many miles to enjoy the beauty and excitement awaiting them.

Visitors frequently stay in Cabarete for at least part of their travel time, since it is close to the airport and has both ocean and hills to enjoy. The neighborhood resembles a Farmers Market nearly every day as the local farmers arrive with their produce and sell their wares throughout the city. Preparing for the day is easier with the fresh aroma and wonderful taste of coffee with the morning meal. And worry not. Although the local language is Spanish, people speak English too.

Cabarete Beach is a myriad of colors for several reasons, with a plethora of blue, green, red and yellow hues filling the area. Clothing, tents, kites and flags show solids, stripes and patterns displaying the cheerful shades that add brilliance to the beach. The water is an ideal temperature and you will see people wading, swimming and enjoying the ocean. Tourists often feel part of their travel experience should be learning to windsurf or try kiteboarding, either of which is a very popular sport down at the beach. Breezes are gentle in the morning and build during the day, so beginners and children usually take lessons early.

The hills provide the opportunity for mountain biking and trekking, with exceptional scenery providing a memory to carry home. A car limits the ability to see things close up or clearly, whereas it is easy to dismount from the bike and explore intriguing areas on foot. Regardless of how many times you see the canyons, it will be hard to believe anything that amazing exists. Make a picture scrapbook of your holiday after you print the pictures from your camera of Cabarete.
