Homeschool Details I Never Considered

I had finally made the choice to homeschool my child. It had taken forever to make the choice. The most troubling issue for me was if I was even equipped. I could not recall the date the Bill of Rights was signed, was unable to name the capitals of most countries, and had completely forgotten how to multiply complex fractions. Even so, I am outstanding at studying and I learn quickly for my age, so I decided that insuring my kid is well educated myself would be better than hoping that somebody else teaches him properly. On top of this - the school system in our city is not ranked very well.

As late spring changed into summer I started looking for the right books and resources. I quickly recognized that if I was careless, the price of homeschooling my kid could really begin to add up. On top of this, I started to find that there is a lot of free information available as well as some very inexpensive curriculums. Did inexpensive translate to poorer quality? Were the pricey tools simply garbage put out by a person trying to make a bunch of cash? I recognized that I had no idea, so eventually I began becoming a member of blogs for homeschool families and, happily, I discovered a lot of extremely lively groups.

Helpful people started sharing their knowledge with me. They talked about their worries and concerns when they began which sounded a lot like mine. They also talked about their victories and how well their kids were learning. I started feeling more capable by the day. I also started realizing just how many things I had to prepare for that I hadn't even thought of!

As an example, one parent asked me about homeschool record keeping. At first I had thought that simply storing all the tests in a filing cabinet would be fine. My new friend reminded me that I would be homeschooling my child for twelve years and would need a terribly enormous filing cabinet. I was going to need report cards, grade books, attendance calendars, and at some point a high school transcript. I couldn't have told you what a high school transcript looked like! I told my friend that I didn't want to think about transcripts yet but she told me that with the correct program, I could keep all of this with ease on a computer and have paper records to put into a much smaller filing cabinet. And when the time comes it will print a transcript for me! This was all great advice since I am atrocious at record keeping.

Because of all of my hard work and with the advice from homeschool families online, I was prepared for the year three weeks in advance! I had my texts, my supplies, my schooling space, and my homeschool record keeping all set up! I am not sure how I will feel in five years, but today I know that homeschooling is a task I can look forward to!
