There's no denying that eBay is a competitive place. There are tens of thousands of sellers, from those making a full time living from it to those just clearing out a bit of the clutter. So how can you make an impact? How can you stand out from the crowd and help your auctions to sell when many other sellers are doing exactly the same? While there's no guarantee that your items will sell for a higher value than others, there are plenty of steps that you can take to increase their chances. These tested and tried strategies will help you to make money on eBay.

A picture speaks louder than 1,000 words

Your product could have the best description on eBay. It could be descriptive, compelling and even bring a tear to the eye, but without a picture you will still struggle to make a decent amount of profit from your item. And more than that, it needs to be a picture that sells your item. An image taken with bad lighting on a distracting background will not sell your product well; even a long loading time could encourage your page viewers to look elsewhere so keep your image size as small as possible while maintaining its quality.

Honesty is important for anyone that wants to make money on eBay. Be honest in your description but also in your photographs, include any items that will be included as an incentive. But don't hide any flaws that your item may have with clever angles or editing, it will only lead to negative feedback in the long run if you attempt to hide anything at this stage.

Great timing is essential

By default, eBay will have your auction end at the time of day in which you list it. This is an important consideration, it doesn't matter if you are a person that rises with the dawn each day because many people don't and it's those people that you are trying to reach. The best time for an auction to end is in the early evening, somewhere between 5 - 7pm. This allows people that have been at work to rush home to place a last minute bid on your auction.

Make sure that you understand your target audience. If you are appealing to parents then a Sunday afternoon could be an ideal ending time, whereas for late teens or early twenties a late evening slot could bring in more profits. If you are unsure test the water with some cheap items, ending them at different times during the day and the week to see when your profits are maximised.

There's not enough to go around!

To make money on eBay you need to convince your audience that the product you have on offer will not hang around for long. If you have many items that are the same to list don't put them all on the auction site at once, instead introduce them gradually with a compelling description calling your prospective buyers to action. Make sure you spend some time researching auctions that have already completed, paying particular attention to any Buy It Now sales as this will give you a great indication as to any bargains that you can offer your clientele.

Implementing these simple tips will help you to get ahead of the game when it comes to selling your items on eBay. Why not try today to see if they make any difference for you?
