A facelift is performed to rejuvenate the apprearance of the face through aging and this is most commonly shown, within the facial area, by a change in position of the deep anatomical structures of the face which are the platysma muscle, cheek fat and the orbicularis oculi muscle. This leads up to three landmarks namely an appearance of the jowl (a broken jaw line by ptosis of the platysma muscle), increased redundancy of the nasolabial fold (caused by a descent of cheek fat) and the increased distance from the ciliary margin to the inferior-most point of the orbicularis oculi muscle (caused by decreasing tone of the orbicularis oculi muscle).
If you are having a facelift Thailand then chances are you will be having one of up to eight different procedures. The procedures are known as SMAS lift, deep plane facelift, composite facelift, mid facelift, mini facelift, thread lift, subperiosteal facelift, and skin only facelift. Please do not be alarmed by the amount of procedures or the fancy names. As we have said throughout this series of blog posts, having a facelift in Thailand can not only save you lots of money in the long term it still offers superb service and post patient care that is just as good, if not better than you would find in your home country.
Each of these procedures will be discussed in a separate article which will talk about each procedure in depth in another series but for now please understand that the type of facelift you have in Thailand really depends on you and your surgeon and what you agree on. You may want the best procedure to make you look the most rejuvenated but if your surgeon feels that, due to factors such as age and past medical history, you are not eligible for it then you will most likely be treated through a less invasive procedure.
The same applies if you are not a fan of needles or surgery in general. In terms of complications the main complication be bleeding of the face which would require a trip back to the operating room and there is obviously the risk of infection but this is less common. As a risk to every operation a lot of the complications can be derived from the reaction to the anesthetics that are used. There may be very remote cases of hair loss in the portions of the incision within the hair bearing scalp which results in a hairline distortion and can particularly effect facial hair in men who have just undergone a facelift. Achieving a natural look after surgery is more difficult with men due to their hair bearing skin.
The most common characteristic amongst people who have had a facelift can be an earlobe which is pulled forward or distorted. This is the most common way you can tell someone has had a facelift procedure. Contrary to what people think this procedure is just as popular with men as it is women and costs around $5000 USD when performed in Thailand which is at least $2000 dollars less than it would cost in the USA.
